Subject: yet another training question - over doing it?
when i do laps, i normally do about 3/4-1 mile (1250-1800 yards). if i'm comfortable doing more distance than what the training program calls for, should i do more? or should i stick to the program so as not to burn myself out? (i'm using the 18 week spring distance - http://www.trinewbies.com/1TPIntSp.htm).i may also end up spending more time on the bike than it calls for. running shouldn't be an issue, since it the thing i enjoy the least.

if you have already in the recent past consistenty swam farthur than what the program calls for, do what u know u can do.  BUT if your at the edge of your endurance, follow the program.

thanks. 1000 yards is pretty easy for me, but the program eventually gets to 2000, which will wear me out. maybe i'll just stick to 1250 for now (25 laps) instead of 1000 then see how i feel.

25 yard pool (so 1 lap = 50 yards)

Gotcha' Just curious! You should be fine if you're comfortable doing more distance. But you certainly don't want to wear yourself out. The question I would ask is why swim more if you don't have to? I swim everyday, but I only swim 800 m, mostly because of time constraints. I only have about 30 min after I run and bike to swim AND get dressed and go to work. But I find when I do swim a mile I usually don't want to swim for a while. So I break it up and swim 1600-2000 m only once a week! My sprint tri is only 750 m. I do that as a daily workout so I concentrate more on my running because it's the event I am the least good at. Swimming more certainly doesn't make me faster. And I know I can swim the distance so I don't really feel the need to swim more than about 800 m a day. Unless I do drills. Is that all confusing or what?Ovetta.

no, that makes a lot of sense...and running is my weak point too. i'm a fish on a bicycle, but running? that i just started about 2 months ago. not my favorite thing, but i've developed a love/hate relationship with it that is oddly satisfying. thanks for the advice!
