Pre-race routine:

Went to a house on the lake in Sodus with Bill’s family the day before the race. Sara, Erica and Ashley joined us. We spent most of the day just lounging around and chatting. Had a few beers and a good dinner. Made a fire, made up names for the stars and took in some peaceful scenery.
Event warmup:

Just hoped in the water for a few minutes
Swim
  • 21m 18s
  • 792 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was better than my last swim but still not where I want to be. All of the men when off in the second wave, women were in the first wave. This seems to be a constant theme with me, perhaps I should look into swim coaching to help this part of my game. Anyways the course seemed a little long and the waves where huge for lake Ontario. The waves were about 6 foot high and rolling in pretty frequently. We all got tossed around a little bit but I think I managed pretty well on the way out and stayed within a pretty good group of guys. After the turn I got a little off course and had a hard time holding my line.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Bike
  • 42m 38s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 18.44 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was little hillier than I expected with a few good climbs and rollers. Again I started a little slower than I wanted to but picked up the pace after about 15 minutes. Being slow out of the water I got a chance to pass a lot of people on the bike. Near the end I saw Greg and his purple Kouta. He said he was out of gas but pushed hard and we ended up hitting T2 together.

Run
  • 23m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I started the run hard and my goal was to not slow down. I pushed up the hill for the first mile and passed a lot of people running slow and walking. The next section was down hill so I had a little bit of time to recover. I came back through town and gave a few high fives to people and really pushed up the hill for the second loop. This was tough but I knew that the race was not that long. I felt strong as I reached the top and I focused on making a strong push to the finish. About 500 yards from the finish I caught Rae and we both sprinted in the chute.
Post race
Warm down:

Went into the lake to cool off. It was gross this time and a lot of algae stuck to the body. Lucky thing they had a shower there to rinse off.
