Comments: The misplaced mile markers made it tough for me to stay focused on my splits and pace so I concentrated on just running a strong steady pace. It got hot out there as the sun came out and started to bake the wet pavement. By mile 4 I was starting to question why the hell I do this to myself but eventually mile 5 came and I knew it would be over soon if I could just hold out. I didn't pay any attention to my watch since I knew the splits were whacky. My HR hovered in the high 170's from the 800m mark and built to 185 over the last mile as I knew i was in the home stretch. At one point the course loops back on itself and the second loop continues straight. The volunteers didn't do a very good job of directing the mixed pack to split and I ended up getting about 20m off course, having to stop, turn around and get back to where I was supposed to be. That probably cost me ~10 seconds but mostly just broke my concentration and rythm. What would you do differently?: Can't think of anything specific I personally could have done. I would have liked it to be cooler, less humid, and have accurate mile markers but overall I ran as strong a race as I could have. Post race
Warm down: Stagger through the shute, dump a bottle of water over my head, getting some in my mouth. Find the nearest patch of grass to fall down and roll around for about 5 min. Eventually I got my tired ass up and walked around, had a bananna and some water. Pizza and beer about 30min later :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, humidity, tough to pace without reliable splits. I could have had another ~10 seconds if the volunteers did a better job at that split. Event comments: Good race, happy I ran it. Smashed my PR and reached a goal I Last updated: 2005-05-28 12:00 AM

Up at 6:45, make my protein shake and hit the road. Got there around 7:10 and it started to rain lightly. By 7:30 it was a downpour complete with lightning. By 7:50 it had clear out and cooled off 5 degrees or so. By race time the sun was out and it was getting warm...and humid from all the water on the ground.
About a mile light jog and some stretching. Had a banana 30min before race time. A few accelerations just before the gun.
