Born and raised there, but alas, no longer live in the tiny state   I'll look you up if I visit!

Some GREAT biking there though...I'm jealous!

I'll need to alert the masses in RI - it has to have better representation than this. Born and raised in the littlest State in the Union.

I'm in RI! I just moved here from OH and live in North Providence. I just do sprint distance tri's though so I'm not the fastest on my bike or my runs. I'd be happy to have someone to train with though if you can deal with me going slow! :-) All my tri buddies are back in OH!

Hello everyone from Little Rhody!
Born and raised in South Kingstown. Currently live there with my wife and kids. I just started running and biking a couple of months ago and currently training for a 5K in Vegas in August and moving onto a Biathlon in Westerly in September. Anyone else going to the 17th Annual Shoreline Biathlon in Westerly? It would be great to find someone to train with down here in South County!

I'm in Rhode Island! I live in Pawtucket. I've been riding for about 2 years now... just not very much... I really started running at the end of April and fell in love with it. I've been off this last week... horrible, I know... cause I've been pretty sick. Feeling better now and I should be getting back out there tonight!!! Let me know if anyone will train with a slowpoke! :-D

Hello fellow Rhodies! I currently live in Warwick (originally from Philly) and am training for two sprint tri's (Wild Hog in Bristol 8/19, YMCA in Westerly 9/23). Also running in the Blessing of the Fleet (10mile) on 7/27....that's gonna be tough. I would love to meet up and train so keep in touch and we can set something up.

Hey Rhodies! Ah, what memories... went to college there and enjoyed many summers there. I still remember the rhody speak - aka. packie store (for booze), quahogs - those muscle type things, clam cakes at that amusement park, etc... and oh yeah, wicked!

You all have some great racing areas! Enjoy the Atlantic ...I miss the ocean!

Hey guys!
I'm a recent Rhode Islander and an even more recent aspiring tri-er. Total beginner, and probably equally intimidated as I am excited by it all. This is my first time on beginnertriathlete.com, but i stumbled across this thread - I live in Providence and would LOVE to train with people. I'm kind of slow, though, and by kind of, I mean really. But I'm hoping to find some resources to take advantage of, maybe group rides or runs; I've also been planning on doing the last RI Tri in September (to give myself as much time as possible to not die), but Ive heard the water will be super cold, and that's bad for beginners. I figure that New England as a whole is small enough to TRI anywhere in the surrounding states, so I was also curious to see if there were any sprint TRIs in September that might be good for beginners. So, I'll continue to poke around the website, but any advice, comments, etc would be very very welcome.
thanks!

HI ALL,

I'm Ed from Cranston. I am brand spankin' new to triathlons. The Ocean Community is going to be my first. I've been running for approx. 6 months and heavily added cycling and swimming over the last month or so just to see if I can finish a tri. Now I'm hooked! I can't wait to get out there and ride/run. I can't say the swim excites me, but hey, I give it my all. If anyone wants to ride in the Cranston area, let's hook up. I'd love to have a look at the Ocean Community course map and maybe tag along on the ride in Sept. If anyone has advice for a first timer, PLEASE SHARE. I'm going to need it.

Thanks!!!

Hey There,
I moved to North Kingstown a coupla years ago and have been running, swimming, biking for years, although none competitively (well, I ran a 5K and two 10Ks ten years ago). Anyway, I've started focusing my workouts in preparation for the Ocean Community YMCA Triathlon this Sept. 23, my first tri. I usually work on weekends but could meet for a workout Sunday mornings.

Hey Dave, PhunnyFocker, Kneptune, and Time2Tri, and everyone else who was at the OCY TRI -

I was a little overwhelmed by LIFE in the weeks leading up to the event and never jumped on the forum to say "hi," but I'm sure I saw all of you guys there. I'm new to TRIs too - this was my first, actually, and I'm totally stoked on the sport. I had such a blast at the event and can't wait for next season...

It sounds like some of you live close to Providence - I'm hoping to keep up training all through winter, and if anyone wants to get together to run or bike or swim, I'm totally game.

Also!! Does anyone have any recovery advice?

Hope everyone did fabulously and reached their goals. I'm totally going out to get a "swim bike run" bumper sticker to slap on my car with pride

Figure I will bump the thread. Hi all. New to the board. I am in the Navy (like you couldn't tell right?) and transfered to Newport in May. I came here from Hawaii where the weather is gret for Tri's but not many are scheduled. This is my first taste of cold in about 5 years, so riding indoors (and running) is killing me. I did 3 Sprint distance Tri's in HI. I have all the gear I need except a wetsuit, and I need a new Tri-suit, and a new set of wheels, and.... well, you get the idea. I swore to myself I would do a 1/2 in 2008 when I first started followed by a full in 2009. Signed up for the Providence 70.3 a couple weeks ago.
I do not have a coach. I am currently using the Triathlete Magazine Essential Week By Week Training Guide to prepare. My 20 week program starts on 25 Feb, so I took the first 7 weeks of the Sprint program to fill the time until then. I am going to talk to a Trainer at the gym Wednesday to see what he has to say about my program (supposed to be an endurance specialist) and am slated to talk to a dietician(sp?) on the 5th.
Need to get my bike tuned up. Had withdrawls the other week when it was nice out and others were out riding. I am riding a 2004 (I think, might be '05) QR Caliente. I am trying to find a good Tri shop in the area so if you know of when let me know please. Need to find a place to try on wetsuits.
I signed up for the Pat Griskus Olympic Distance Tri in June to fit my training schedule. I will actually be down in PA playing paintball the weekend I am supposed to do a Sprint.
Anyways, just thought I would stop in, say hi and introduce myself.

S-B-R Safe,
Scott

There are really no "Tri" stores around. The best store in my area for TRiathlon stuff is Camire's Athletic Soles in Wakefield. You'll have to cross the bridges to get there. Welcome to Rhode Island!

Thanks for the welcome. Iwant to try out the new Zoot shoes but have no clue who might carry them. Hey Triguy2004, got any good rides planned when it warms up?

A great bike shop is Providence Cycle on Branch ave in Providence. I think they have the best mechanics around. They have a selection of tri bikes, and can probably get anything you want. I used to be in the Navy-- was stationed in Groton, CT at the sub base, and in San Diego before that. I did my officer training at Newport-- it's a great place to live.

Hope this helps!

There's a Tri shop in MA called Fast Splits, haven't been there yet but they may carry Zoot shoes, or the Multisport World Conference and Expo on March 30th should definitely have them

You also might want to try Camire's shoes in Wakefield, RI. They have a good selection of running shoes.
