I'm slowly having my old silver fillings replaced with the "newer" stuff.  Meaning - if one needs to be replaced I let her replace it with the newer stuff.

Only replace those that had fallen out.
My dentist told me digging out the intact filling is not a pleasant procedure.  If it aint' broken, don't fix it.

If the others need to be taken care of soon (cracked or hurting) then I would go for it.  If you're suggesting that she wants to do it all at one time then I can understand the reasons for that.  I ended up with a mouthful of cavities (too many sweets???) and my dentist suggested taking care of them in 2 visits (I think, this was about 10 yrs ago).  Did the left half and then the right half.  Yes it was expensive, but it minimized the number of times I had to come in and the number of shots I had to get.  So I would map out what she wants to replace with what really needs to be replaced and then figure out what you can afford to do and proceed that way.  But there isn't really a need to mess with teeth that aren't hurting or causing problems.

In fact, I managed to break off a portion of my crown the other day and while my dentist was repairing that he noticed the filling in the tooth next to it was cracked and was starting get some decay, so we took care of that too.  I should mention that my dentist uses Cerec so it also only meant 1 visit total instead of the 2 typical for crowns.

Had deep cleaning the other day, and now the stitches are slowly disolving from my gums.   Had some fillings replaced 6 months ago and the dentist drilled like he could find oil in the gums....

They always say that smoking is the biggest cause of gum disease.  (stupid me for smoking 20+years ago)

I vote "if they ain't broke, don't fix em".   If they are intact, I say leave them.

Mine does too!  Nice to get it all done right away.  He also uses a laser (in most cases, like fillings) to "numb" you.  No shots.  I had a cavity filled in 15 minutes flat from start to finish and you don't have to de-numb for hours.  I *heart* my dentist.

Sweet!  But I get a massage at mine

I am a believer in sedation (sp?) dentistry... Once you go that rout, it is hard to go back...

I know it's too late bc you probably went already but I do not recommend the "new" stuff, the filling that is white and matches the teeth. Cosmetically, and sensitivity on temp, it is good. But not for pressure.

I had it done for two of my teeth and they are extra sensitive on pressure. It seems to me that they are not as "strong" as the metal fillings. To this day, 2 year later, those two teeth are still sensitive to pressure.

It might just be me, but I don't recommend it.
