He guys I have an issue. It looks like the race is going to have the poles to rack your bike. Except I am using the Adamo that has a shorter nose. It has a “hook” in the back to rack the bike expect its being blocked by the X-Lab rear hydration kit. Anyone have any suggestions? Buying a bike stand would have to be an LAST LAST option. Will the race organizers provide a stand in this case? Likely not I imagine. Thanks.

P.S. I will be at Madnia’s at 4:30pm hope to see you guys there!

blountds - 2010-03-25 10:06 AM Definitely try your adamo. If you still have perineum problems you are unfortunately not riding the saddle properly.

I never thanked you for the advice. I went ahead and road in the tri shorts without the second bike shorts and it worked out. Thanks for the advise and saving me like 3 minutes in t1!

I need y'all's help.  In case you aren't from the south, "y'all" means each one of you.Smile

My wife is going to be in New Orleans for the race and is not very comfortable driving around.  She wants to be able to see her husband, or her boyfriend, not sure which, while he is on the bike.  Any suggestions about how she should go about this?  Shuttles, cabs, pimps, open for suggestions.

x2 it can hang from the hydration kit or just turn it around to hang from the bars. May take longer but works. I'm happy your adamo worked out, I love mine and I'm actually carrying my flat kit under under my adamo. Basically tucked underneath my seat is an 80mm tube, 2 levers, 16 gram co2, scab patch kit and an air chuck all neatly under the adamo. Very versitale saddle i love it. Hope to see you guys in NOLA but unfortunately no Mandinas for me. Im meeting some local friends at LA pizza kitchen.

LOL....love the ya'll were coming from up yonder in TN so that was funny,   Also my fiance will be driving around to watch and then meet me at the end to watch me finish and transport back to transition to pick up my stuff,   She has never been to New orleans  and would love a Co-Pilot.   We'll be at Mandina's between 530-6pm

Bill, the way the race is laid out this year (I think) it shouldn't be too hard for her to stay in one spot and see you start/end the swim and start the bike. Other then that the bike course is fairly secluded as far as getting there by car. It's really in the middle of no-where. She will only have to get to the start/transition and get to the finish. There should be plenty of parking at the start of the race so if she drives you down there she should be set.

Also, for what you are going to pay in cab fare it might be cheaper to buy a GPS for the car...

Seems we are running the exact same setup, (flat kit under the seat) thanks! I will hang it from the aero bars.

Hey all!
Heading down on Friday to get my packet and the mandatory meeting.  I coach a girls softball team so will head down Saturday after their game.  Bike check in is from 2-9 I believe on Saturday.  Will make dinner if I get checked-in in time.

One question that I guess I missed.  Just trying to figure out how I am going to get my bike back to the hotel.  Most likely there will be a bus back to transition from the finish area?  Then get my wife to haul me and stuff (bike, wetsuit, etc) back to hotel?

I'm planning on jumping in OWS around noon on saturday and then run over to turn in my bike @ 2pm.  There are buses that transports the athletes back to transition from the race finish.

just checked accuweather.com

as of right now: says sunday will be a high of 76 with a NNE wind @ 13MPH.

what does this means for head/tail winds on bike and waves on the water?

If the wind is from the north that means the wind blows across the lake (24 miles) and builds up waves.  It won't be smooth water like last year.

On the bike, I think that means we'll have the tailwind on the way back to transition.

will you be working the bike leg again, bear? would love to meet a BT celeb!

Yes, working the whole race. I'll be at transition when it opens, on a motorcycle for the bike course, and on my MTB for the run course.

rach_1623 - 2010-04-13 3:58 PMThanks for the info, Bear.  Is it illegal for the guys to take shirts off?  (I'm thinking maybe their bib numbers were on them...?)  I won't even know what you look like even if I do see you out on the course.  All I've ever seen of you is the Bear avatar.

.

WTC has a "no naked torso" rule, strictly enforced. Just one of several ways they differ from USAT.

Plenty of pictures of me in my album and race reports.

I'm OK with Mandina's for 5:30ish. Is someone making reservations? There will be five of us bears...

Hello to everyone!!! ;p

I am a member of Greater New Orleans Triathletes and wanted to give you all the location that we use for a lake swim. It is a nice spot on the lake which we call the "swim hole". One loop around some poles which follow the shore is approx 1/2 mile. I have been out there a lot recently which have been packed with people.

There is a lot of road construction (detours etc....) going on so I will give you a route u can take to find it. I used mapmyrun which I am unfamiliar with so pardon me if it is crazy looking. lol I put an end sign by the location. There is a parking lot opposite the lake and will have a lot of people leading up to the race so u cant miss it. Look for a row of poles in the lake for the location as well.

http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/us/la/new%20orleans/451127134077212103

The water was pretty rough yesterday but most everyone finished the swim. I think it is supposed to calm more over the weekend so we should all be ok.

oh, the water feels great so no worries on the temps.

Good luck to everyone!! I would say I will see you at the race but I am starting 3rd wave from the last and I am sure I wont be passing up anyone....lol

Drove the course yesterday.  I live here, so I SHOULD have ridden it, but it's not the greatest route to do when the road aren't closed - lots of big truck and high-ish speeds.  Anyway, it really is relatively smooth once you get on Chef Menteur Hwy.  Riding up Hayne Rd. is not bad...concrete road surface with lengthwise bumps pretty often, and a couple of spots where holes have been patched, but no gaping, wheel-breaking holes that I saw.  I think the bumpiest section is the short section of "frontage road" you ride on from Chef Menteur to Lake Forest, and then back again, before getting back on I-510 to head back north.  The first portion of the route is not very scenic (at one point, you pass a chemical or oil processing plant), but it gets nice once you get into the Bayou Sauvage area.  Not much protection from side winds, though.  I will be on a ZIpp 808 front/Sub - 9 rear combo that I can handle in winds up to 20 mph, but if it's super windy, you might consider a less-deep wheel in the front on race day if you're lightweight.  Just my 2 cents.  Good Luck to everyone!!!

Looking like I won't get down there until 4:30.  Bike check in then hotel check-in.  Doubt I will make a 6pm dinner but will try.  Can someone PM their cell so I can warn someone to keep a spot at the dinner table for me if I get done early? May be I will check into the hotel after dinner and save some time.

Thanks New Orleaners!
Is transition to that swim place easily walkable?  It looks so when I compare to run route map etc but can't see a scale.
I will not have a hire car so will be taxing/ busing to transition and hoping once bike checked in (or even before) to go for a dip in the lake.

Thanks

Its been unusually windy down here lately, been about 15-20mph everyday for over a week or so. Today just around 20mph and I can hear the wind blowing now outside of my apartment. It is mostly north winds too and lake has been choppy for about a week or so now. Im scared to say it but im predicting rough waters and a strong wind for the bike. But I guess it is good in preparation for Kona right?
