Pre-race routine:

peanut butter sandwich and some watered down gatorade about an hour before my start time.
Event warmup:

wrestling with wetsuit...I won.
Swim
  • 49m 4s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really glad I had the wetsuit especially due to my lack of training as of late. It really helped me out a lot. Felt relaxed and comfortable throughout...I wish the swim could last longer. Of course there was the usually punches to the face and kicks in the stomach but dudes don't like it when you pass them.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get some darker googles I can never see any bouys on the way out so just have to sight for other swimmers ahead of me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

Felt like this was a smooth transition didn't feel off balance coming out of the swim like I normally do (you gotta get earplugs it helps a lot!)which helped a lot.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't notice when I laid my shirt down that it was still inside out. I also put my helmet on before the Jersey but luckily it unzips far enough that it wasn't an issue it did however get stuck when trying to pull doen over my stomach. I thought I was going to have to ask for some assistance.
Bike
  • 3h 37m 39s
  • 56 miles
  • 15.44 mile/hr
Comments:

really happy with my average speed on the bike hopefully by next season I'll be averaging 16 miles an hour. Really happy that I wore the jersey I was able to grab water bottles at the aid stations and slip it into the back pocket of it. Made sure to eat and drink on the bike so I wouldn't bonk later on. I can definitely go a couple months without eating fig newtons. Was really happy when I got to the the 3 rd loop because the course was more open at theat point and I didn't have to worry as much about other cyclist at the turn arounds. The volunteer standing at the top of lakeview was definitely my favorite and she happened to be at the end of the run course too before heading up the shoot.
What would you do differently?:

A couple less fig newtons. I need to get use to riding with more people around me I was really nervous I was going to cause an accident. Practicing turns and u-turns would help as well.
Transition 2
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

This transition went much smoother almost forgot the visor glad I didn't.
Run
  • 3h 06m 35s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 14m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the first time in a log time that I did not suffer/feel like dieing on the run course. I came off the bike feeling pretty strong no dizzyness or anything. I did walk a bit more than I should have but I felt like I ran a lot more than I have in past races. Saw Kim, Lisa, and Milton on the run looking fantastic and talked with a few other people as well. I stopped at all the add stations to get ice and something to drink to cool off. My knee really started to tighten up a lot by the second loop but it actually felt better when I ran on it so when it would start to get really tight I knew it was time to run for a bit. My goal for this race was to finish and have fun. Before going into this race I was seriously considering not doing any races next year and just training. The main reason was because in my past couple of races I really did not have fun during them and spent the last portion feeling like I was going to die. I really had a good time out there yesterday and enjoyed myself. I feel like I accomplished my goal of having fun and not feeling defeated. So maybe I'll a do a race or two next year ...we'll see.
What would you do differently?:

I proabbaly could have ran a bit more...
Post race
Warm down:

Does hurling count? Just kidding

Event comments:

The volunteers were awesome!!! I really feel like this event was ran extremely well and would definitely do it again!

Nice job Mel. I told you everything would be fine. You will have to do a few races. That is the reward for the training you have put in. The volunteer you spoke of is in my masters swim class. I'll forward your comments to her. She is a fantastic person and so are you.
