Overall Rank = 701/2022

Age Group Rank = 11/73
Pre-race routine:

Spent the morning hanging out with the fellow VFS folks.
Event warmup:

no warmup
Swim
  • 38m 3s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Didn't expect to have a blistering swim time, so this was right on the money. Just tried not to do anything dumb.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Swim went as expected.
Transition 1
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

Course was congested so I pretty much walked out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 2h 36m 57s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.41 mile/hr
Comments:

Ride itself went great. I finished feeling extremely strong - could have certainly hammered much harder, and my legs felt very strong. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it at the time, but I wasn't drinking nearly enough...
What would you do differently?:

Drink ~4 bottles of fluids on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

Good transition. Went smoothly. Took extra time to put on socks and sunblock.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 18m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where things fell apart... I continued to feel good 3 miles into the run, when suddenly my stomach cramped hard. I tried to walk it off, but it wouldn't stop. I also began to feel very hot... ended up losing ~30 mins from my goal time due to significant walking stretches. By the time I was done, I was severly dehydrated.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more - especially on the bike leading up to the run. By the time I realized it, it was too late for the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Pretty much crashed and sat for 20 mins after the run. Should have gotten an IV.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

dehydration. Should have known better and had a lot more to drink.

Event comments:

Very top notch race. Would definitely do it again.

Congrats Dave! Terrific race. Bummer about the dehydration, but a great finish! Your bike time is killer.

Imagine that course has to be a great one.
