So, for the past 2 years I have gotten shut out of NYC and although I know it is way expensive for an OLY and also a crowded race, i have wanted to do it once in my tri life.  So finally, I am in...anyone else doing it?

I'm thinking about it. I don't know if I want to stay up just to get an entry though (haha). You'll have to be ready to enter 12:01AM if you want in. Sold out in 20 minutes last year.

I got an email this AM (3:25 am or something) from USAT saying they had a limited number of spots open. So when I got up at 5:15, I immediately went to the site to sign up. DENIED. Somehow in the wee hours of the morning, all the AG spots were taken. So if you're a Clydesdale/Athena you can get it now through USAT.

I'm staying up to sign up this weekend.

Wow, you're right - I just checked my email... 11:42 pm. I was in la-la land by then... now I'll have to sit up and wait with the masses and hope the Active.com site doesn't crash or throw me out.

I got in with a charity group over a week ago. That deadline is much earlier. We're supporting a group fighting Amyloidosis, a rare blood disease.

Is it a free entry or just a guaranteed entry that you still pay for?

You can actually receive either, depending on the job you did.  I was just a lowly grunt so I got guaranteed admission but had to pay.  There are some semi-supervisory positions where you receive free admission the following year as well though.

I am in - looks like a blast.  My youngest son told me not hit my foot on the plane that went down in the river - I might get cut.

Yup.

I'm going to volunteer again as well, so I'll probably either be at packet pick up or doing the transition tours.

WOW $245 for an oly is crazy! Not in my budget for this year though... that big money is going to go to a HIM.

I'm in, did it last year and I'm excited to crush my PR this year now that I know what I am doing.
There are so many ways to register early, it no wonder general admission sells out in 20 mins, there are probably only 500 gen ad spots by then!!

I'm scared of the Hudson River, that's one dirty 1500m swim.  It's like the Jersey shore in the 80s, needles floating around and stuff. :-D

Spectating friends in it this year, get ready for a FAST swim. Bike course isn't too spectator friendly, run course has a lot of good viewing spots.

Wait until you guys book a hotel for the race, then it gets even more expensive lol :D

I'll hopefully be in (knock on wood). Missed the limited number of slots, but will be ready at 12:01!

Last time I did this race was '08. Is it me or did the spots go faster this time? I remember that time I did it during the advance USAT-only period, but still took my time about it.

Me too, I really have no desire to swim the Hudson in NYC. One reason, I usually swim with my mouth open. Yuk

+1 It ISN'T that bad... I did the Philly triathlon too and thought the Schuylkill River was worse.

I'll have two PCs running tonight at 12:01am to try to get a spot. ..
The water in the Hudson isn't too bad, especially since you should be in it for a very short time (if you have the stronger AM current). The funny thing is that the pics of you exiting the water and on the long run to T-1, it looks like you have a mustache and goatee. So if you are a woman and don't want to be mistaken for a man, wipe your face on the sleeve of your wetsuit as soon as you exit...
