I'm thinking of getting one on my thigh.  On the upper outside of the right leg.  High enough that you can't see it in business skirts, but low enough that you can see it in running short or shorter tri shorts.

I have alot of ink soooo....Back of the shoulder would be my vote. Visible in a tank top, swim suit or tri top. Incredibly easy to cover up if you want.

trishie - 2009-10-30 11:42 AM I'm really iffy on the whole thing, and since it's permanent... maybe I should just stick with the jewlery I have so subtely hinted to my husband that I'd like:

he said oh hell no to this one:

priced at $1,655

I went with the diamonds as well.  I have the m-dot with the diamond as the dot.  Toyed with the idea of a tat ut I can't commit.

One of my really good friends got the wrist tat. Although she wears a thick bracelt or watch every day...her boss saw it and she got "the talk" from HR. She has a very corprate job. I got my M-Dot tat on the outside of my shoulder. it is covered by my t-shirt...but can see it when i wear my racing clothes (singlets).  I absolutely love it...and whenever i see it smile and am just so happy i got it. What a great reminder that anything is possible! I love to be able to see it when i race/train..so my advice would be to get it somewhere that is visable during said activities.

Meh... he does if said "IM related" thing is $1,600+ and I've already spent thousands on a new bike, airfare, hotel, racing clothes, nutrition, etc... without a peep from him !

I'm still undecided!  I'm thinking either hip or upper thigh now...

I'm not trying to dissuade you, but just want to give a diffferent perspective.

Prior to, and just after IMLP '04, I too thought about getting a tattoo. I didn't, but settled for one of the 140.6 stickers on my car. I did a second iron in '05, thought again about the tattoo.....and decided to be happy with the car sticker.

About a year ago I looked at the sticker one day and it no longer seemed pertinent. That was about three years after iron #2, and while both irons were good races for me, I just didn't feel as if I was an ironman any longer. It was almost like having to renew something every few years, like a license to practice a particular profession, say --- and I had let mine lapse. It was really a no-brainer to remove the sticker from the car, and thank goodness that was the limit to the commemoration of my two irons!

I am NOT saying that everyone should feel this way, and certainly for those who have done an iron they are entitled to feeling that they are always an ironman. For me, however, I didn't feel I was "there" any longer. (For decades I referred to myself as a teacher, but since retiring I no longer use that in the present tense as a way of describing myself.)

Just a thought.....

Hey he gets to go to Coz!!!!  And he didn't have to do all the long rides, training, etc OR race once he gets there---seems he's slacking so why should he have a peep!?!?

I've always been a fan of the lower hip/upper thigh for women---grew up swimming and all the super fasties on good teams/division I college teams went with that area for the team logo/mascot---showed it off in swim suits but easily hidden for work.

I have two cat tats, back of right shoulder and left hip...both before my three pregnancies, one of which was twins.  Neither changed appreciably.  And I do have those lovely stretch "marks of honor" Tongue out  I think unless you gain an inordinate amount of weight with a pregnancy or get your ink on your belly, pregnancy should not affect most tats.

I really like the high thigh/hip location...could wear boyshort swimsuit to cover if ever needed.

what about like the higher part of this tattoo with an MDOT......  mine is on my side ankle on the right leg, wouldn't work for you but i have zero regrets and love it.

just a thought....  plus it is very sexy there, your hubby would probably love it  as well...

I have the Speedo Logo tattoo where the above pic tat is. It's just something small and can only be seen when I have my suit on. It represents something I love to do...Also toying with the idea of getting a shark on my rib cage

I know you said you didn't want one on your back, but that's where mine is, so I thought I'd give my perspective. Mine is between my shoulder blades, and is easy to cover up if I need to. Its also easy to show off (most of it, anyway) if I want. The best part, for me? Because its on my back, and because I don't see it very often, I don't get tired of it. I've had it for two years, and its still a little surprise and giddy feeling whenever I get a glimpse in photos or in the mirror.
