Comments: I was really happy with this run. I planned to use gels every 1/2 hour to avoid bonking, and that seemed to work really well. I did not take in enough liquids though, and paid for it in the last two miles. (I didn't want to stop to drink more than one of the small cups they were handing out at the stations. I should have.) I flew (for me) through the first half of this race, and finished it in about 46 minutes. Obviously, my per mile time fell off in the second half, which I am not thrilled about but on the whole I was pretty happy with the race. In addition to drying out in the last few miles, I was suffering with some major blisters on the bottoms of my feet. I have to figure out a way to deal with this on long runs. What would you do differently?: Slow down in the first half of the race to allow for a stronger finish. Hydrate better. Figure out how to avoid blisters. Post race
Warm down: water - water - water starbucks and granola What limited your ability to perform faster: hydration and blisters Event comments: Greta start to the race season - can't wait for the first tri next month Last updated: 2005-05-31 12:00 AM

Up at 5, picked up my bud at 5:30 and we drove to Madison. Ate some granola bars, drank some water and coffee on the way.
We got there late, so there was very little time to watm up. Just stretched and tried to get in to one of the potapotties. (failed to get in before race time and subsequently thought I was going to explode for the first 2 miles) Toed the line and took off.
