Pre-race routine:

I got there early so I would be able to park at the high school. Got there, got my packet and shirt. Drank lots of water, used the bathroom 3 or 4 times. Put the chip on my sneaker. Then decided I would be too warm so went and changed into shorts. Kept my long-sleeve shirt because it has a rear pocket. I carried 2 hammer gels, 1 shot block, and 8 oz. of water.
Event warmup:

jogged around a little, stretched a little, chatted a lot. Ran into a good friend of mine so that was really nice.

Comments:

This was a good pace for me. I tried to pick out compatible people and just stay with them. One was a 27 year old woman. She was slightly ahead of me, but I had to stop because my shoe came untied around mile 6.5. Then I tried to catch her but was not making progress. In fact, she was pulling away from me. So I forgot about her and found someone else to chase. And then at mile 10, there she was again! So I ran with her for the next 2.75 miles. But she had some kick left and dropped me on the final approach to the finish. She finished about 20 seconds ahead of me?
What would you do differently?:

One water stop was unmanned. It turned out a high school team was supposed to man it, but couldn't find it. Duh. So it was self serve with no clean cups. I just picked up a used cup and poured my own. Maybe I should have skipped that one altogether.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and eat. I waited around to cheer my friend through her finish. She finished more than an hour after me. She got quite emotional as she crossed the line. I am glad I could be part of that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

me.

Event comments:

I love woman-only races! Really good vibes, and the "one lucky guy" was really friendly, too.

Great job on the run!! Look at how following a plan works so well.
Was a nice day for a race, too.  Or was it too warm?

The temperature was perfect!  Warm but the breeze had a nice tang to it.  I stressed over getting the right combo to wear, and I think I was just right.  Maybe a tad too warm.
