Resident Curmudgeon 25290 The Road Back | Subject: "Ride Lots! for a Cause" May Results Here's the results from the May bike challenge. First those BTers who successfully completed their stated mileage goals, along with their respective pledges if successful:
These successful BTers will now vote on the beneficiary of all pledges, at the rate of one vote per mile. Here is the original thread to see the guidelines for the beneficiary, mainly that they
Someone (slovegreen?) suggested that the beneficiary's event be in June. I'm OK with that, gives us some immediacy and a chance to see it through before we forget, however, that wasn't an orginal requirement so I'll leave that up to you. Edited by the bear 2005-06-01 4:05 PM |

Their pledge here was what they said they would donate if they didn't make their goal. Again, the successful challengers will pick the beneficiary/charity. |

Extreme Veteran 562 | Subject: RE: "Ride Lots! for a Cause" May Results Congrats to those who made it! I chose my goal based on biking to work 2x a week plus one long ride a week; however, I spent a week in Kentucky racing cars and drinking beer and only rode once while I was there! At any rate, I have had a good month, and at least I don't have to talk my wife into taking more pictures of me! I'll watch this thread and contribute to the choice of the majority. |

Dang, I might've been closer if I didn't get sick, but let's get real, I just didn't make it! And really, I'm trying to get in another 500 before the end of July, and 3 of you did that in ONE MONTH. When do you all find time to get in so many miles???? That's my biggest challege. Congrats and nice work! |

Elite Veteran 777 flatland | Subject: RE: "Ride Lots! for a Cause" May Results Congrats to all those who met their goals! Man, 500+ miles makes my quads quivver in fear. I have been telling them that they've got it good, and not to whine, now I think they believe me. Here's a lesson learned: do NOT try to do about 50% of your pledged miles in the last week 1/2 of the challenge. Procrastination does not work with endurance sports. Will happily put up my donation to whatever worthy cause the winners vote for. Thanks again, Bear, for running the challenge and getting me to ride lots more than I've ever done before! |

Procrastination does not work with endurance sports. Got to agree with this, having had to ride 200 miles in the last four days of the month, including 50+ on Memorial Day under rainy conditions. Doesn't seem to be a whole ot of responses here, nor is anyone clamoring for a June Bike Challenge. Has everyone tired of this already? Regardless, we need to get the votes in to see where our pledges are going. I'm voting my miles toward Kim's Diabetes ride, which IS this month. |

Organize, prioritize, commit. Or, simply ride a heck of a lot faster! I'm up for another challenge (for REAL this time, none of this don't make it stuff). I wonder if people over committed themselves by participating in too many challenges. Perhaps a poll is in order? Edited by slovegreen 2005-06-02 9:15 AM |

Expert 773 | Subject: RE: "Ride Lots! for a Cause" May Results My congratulations go out to all of those who participated, whether you made your goal or not. It really motivated me to know that I was riding for a worthy cause, and not just to get in miles. There are so many triathletes who are involved in worthy causes-by far you guys are the most giving group I've ever been associated with. You guys rock! Having said that, my wife survived a deadly illness a few years back and I know how it can turn your world upside down. It took all my time and energy to be with her and see her through it. I wish I had the money to give to each charity, but I don't...so I vote with my emotions and chose Steve and his fight for Aplastic Anemia. I've never heard of it before, and maybe this will help get the word out about this disease. |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: "Ride Lots! for a Cause" May Results I didn't make my goal so I don't have a vote (doesn't matter), but I felt pretty sad this morning after my ride that I didn't need to log my miles for anything. I'm way up for another ride challenge. I love the idea of giving to the charities so many of us are supporting. |

OK, challenge participants, click Here for Kim’s Pledge Page to fulfill your pledge and make your donation to the American Diabetes Association in support of Kim's upcoming Tour de Cure ride. By my count, the pledges total up to $295. Edited by the bear 2005-06-03 8:31 AM |
