I'm in.

The last two years I have gotten fat and lazy after the holidays and this race is my wake up call.  This year I plan on showing up and kicking butt.  Or 20 lbs over weight.

This race slapped me in the face pretty good this past year too. I might come in prepared this time

Great race, definitely in.  If you are interested, sign up early.  The numbers are capped and I believe this sold out in early December last year.

I should do this - Close to home, sounds like a fun race, and it gives me something to work toward during January...  Sounds like it fills up pretty fast, and I'm not sure how this old bod is going to feel after Kiawah...

I am officially in.  I have never done a trail run, let alone 11.5 miles of it.  Should be fun.

If you are on the fence, keep in mind that it is capped at 300 and the last race sold out around December 15, 2008.

This is a great race! Unfortunately I don't think it fits into my schedule for this year

It is a great indicator of your Half Marathon fitness. Last year I ran 1:29 at Red Top and 1:26 at ING and I know other folks are in the same ball park as well.

My advice....be careful coming downhill!!!

I have never run trails.  I am not sure we even have them in the city.  Anyone up north want to organize a trial run some where?  I would like to get in a few runs before making an a** out of myself.

I think I'm in, but man it's going to be cold!  GUTS is a great org, I'm volunteering for the Pine Mountain 40 Miler in December.

You could do some trail running at Kennesaw Mountain battlefield, Stone Mountain, or head west to Sweetwater State Park.  That's where I hit my trails anyway.

For those of you who have done it is this description from the website accurate?  How technical is it?  Could you do it without trail training?

Course Description
Winding, moderate to easy wooded trails with several bridge crossings & beautiful views of Lake Allatoona.

The first few miles are pretty easy and on a fire road around the lake.  I would describe it as moderately hilly.  After that it starts to get tougher and there is a small stream crossing and a tough climb up a hill through the woods with no trail.  I would call this section tough, but manageable.  After about 6 miles you cross a road and go by a ranger station.  After that it starts to get tough.  The trail is in good shape and doesn't require any special attention, but it's up, up, up, and then down, down, down.  wash. rinse. repeat.  This is the section where Cornelius and I felt our lack of fitness last year, and where the name Red Top MOUNTAIN comes from.

I don't think the course is technically difficult.  The creek you cross is about a foot wide and most of the trails are in great shape.  It's just really hilly.

I think running the Lieta Thompson trail in Roswell is very comparable.

Can anyone compare this course to the Serenbe race this past weekend (Hill Country 15K)?

38 dollars (after active fee) is cheap for this race. It's very well done.

My biggest memory from last year was how much my hips and quads hurt over the next few days.

Some advice would be to practice quick, tight turns. Planting with one foot and redirecting your body in another, fairly exaggerated direction. Thinking 90 degrees is too easy. This course will have you turning 160 at times, while running up, or down steep slopes. It's not insanely difficult, but it's not an easy course either. It had me huffing and puffing. I ran a 1:34 last year and that placed me 39 of 213 overall. I was overweight then too. I mean who isn't after Nov Dec, and Jan.

I am most likely in.
