Hey, you... I am calling you out. Yep. You. Go find a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot run/walk. These races are everywhere. Then add a little extra to the regi$tration fee, since it will likely support a food bank or homeless shelter. Do it now. Bring a bag of extra canned  food goods with you when you show up. Then run it out early before you celebrate with friends and family. I promise you'll have a happy Thanksgiving.

(Me? I am racing in Frederick, Maryland for an organization that supports children, adolescents, and adults struggling with serious mental illness by providing assistance with their daily living, housing, and employment goals. Please select a cause that is important to you ... in your 'hood.... then post your race so we can keep this thread up top, and remind all of us that we really, really, have a lot to be thankful for.)

I'll be doing the Boulder Turkey Trot.  Started this tradition last year running an event in Eagle-Vail and absolutely love it.  I'll be bringing money in this case as they can do 4 meals for $1 so an extra $10=40 meals!  And the reg fee is only $10 to boot.

I'm doing the Turkey Trot prediction run in Columbia, Maryland.  No Ipods watches or timing devises at all.  Closest person to 11am wins a small little turkey.  All race proceeds go to a local scholarship for local high school athletes.

I'm injured or I would be doing one of the local ones here in NOVA - as other posters have indicated, there are several.

PS - most, if not all races benefit some charity, so it's not like we're heartless bastages the rest of the year...

I will be running the Turkey Trek 5k benefitting The Storehouse of Greater Albuquerque.  They are accepting donations of food and clothing.  I will donate and then try to run really fast.  Then I will go home and spend time with family, eat 10-20x the calories I burned running, and then plop on the couch and watch some football.

I'm running "The Habitrot" 5k (http://www.active.com/running/franklin-tn/9th-annual-habitrot-5k-run-walk-and-kids-fun-run-2009) here in Franklin. It supports the Williamson County Habitat for Humanity.
