Check this web site about the projected spread of the oil spill. I do not believe it will be a problem next weekend. Not sure about the IM. I am keeping a positive outlook since this will be my first 1/2IM. Nervous and exited about next week. Hope all injury's heal and Good luck to all!

Gosh, this oil spill is terrible.  Looking at the noaa site, it's hard to say how far it will spread in a week.  Seems unlikely to impact the race, but who knows.  You all down in Florida keep us posted to what you are hearing.

There is currently no talk of the oil hitting us.  It could possibly hit the keys before us.  Except for the wind the weather has been nice (well it's storming right now).  The wind was so bad last Friday, the waves in the Gulf were moving sideways, and part of front beach road was covered in sand.  The wind has been pretty calm for the past couple of days.

Good luck all, and have fun.

Anyone want to share a condo with me?  Or just rent it from me?  I've had 3 people waffle on me.  I'm not going up there to sit in a condo by myself for 3 days and DNF a race.

If the my wife's OB gives her the go-ahead to wait over the weekend, then I'm definitely in for my revenge on this race. Our baby is due very very soon. I warmed up this past Saturday at IM St George just for it.

lmihalcik - 2010-04-16 9:07 PM Good for you on the running!  Let me know what the plans are and I will try. We probably won't head over until lunch time on Friday so we can work part of the day. I'll have the squeeze and 2 teens in tow, so my schedule probably won't be very flexible : )

Vols...hows things? Getting some miles in?

Did an ow swim today. Water was very comfortable with the suit on.

Sorry I went missing for a bit!!  Things have really taken a turn around here...from break ups to layoffs.  Good news is that I'm blessed and have started a new career path and I'm really excited.

In regards to this weekend, my world has been like a tornado.  I've gotten a bit of training in but I'm going to be winging most of this race.  I feel good but will be out there looking to have a good time.

If anyone is getting in town and wants to meet up at the dinner or before feel free to give me a call at 850-238-1390.  I look forward to meeting you all and hope everyone has a great race come Saturday!!

Last year this was my first OWS, and we took a practice swim on Friday that helped me realize you should breathe to the opposite side that the swells are coming from to avoid a mouth full of seawater, and to try and time that breath with the peak of each swell. Worked for me.

Compared to last weekend, the water is great.  The water should be a lot better than last year too. It also looks like it is going to be warmer than last year.  The problem last year, is that it got warm that day, no time to acclimate.  Anyway, I'm just swimming this year.

Good Luck everyone.

Does anyone know if they went through with the swim or not?  I'm assuming they did- I didn't see any updates on the race site that shows it was cancelled.
