I wish. I HATE running.

Felt it on the bike a few times, though.

Hmmm. Very unscientific of me to say, but I have a feeling I've got some serious brain chemical imbalances going on. I'll wait & see if there are other wierdos out there.

BTW: For those of you who "hate" it, do you think you actually do considering that you continue to do it? I wonder if the saying is true: Your perception is your reality.

Yes, it is a means to the end.
The more I run the less I hate it but I still have days when I hate it the whole time.  On a good day with a 7 mile run I don't hate 3-4 miles.

My theory is the 'runners high' is some kind of urban legend with only anecdotal 'evidence'  LOL
There are a lot of other activities that are more fun during that give you the endorphin high after.

I get high as a kite, and only after about 20 mins. I just zone out completely, I dont even notice I have music blasting in my ears anymore or how fast I'm going (or not going). I find it affects me more at night, its harder to get there during the day, too much stimulus.

No, I actually hate it. I was Army from 1987 to a bit ago and ran just about every day so it's all I knew for a workout but I dislike every run I've ever done.

It says something about how much I like my bike that I tolerate running just so I can bike. I like swimming too, thus the tri thing.

I get it after the run, not during. It occurs about /2 the time and I have gotten so I can tell if the run is going to give me a post-run high before it is over.

As an aside, I get swimmer's high almost every time and it lasts longer. It is an overall feeling of well-being and, IMHO, is one of the best reasons to be doing this sport.

I DO!!! I have been running since 1979, I love it.  I had to stop for awhile about 5 years ago due to a herniated disk, too many miles on this body. But 2 years ago I started back, along with bike and swim so my body handles it much better.  But for all the years that I ran and only ran I can honestly say I loved it.  I just wish my body would allow me more miles.  Right now the most I can do is 5 miles without too many problems. So keep going and enjoy every step. You are not alone!

Yup..tune out everything that is going on around me and crank it..if I could keep it the whole run I'd run forever. Unfortunately its usually fleeting and only happens on longish runs of 5miles or more and never during a race.

Not every time but often enough that it keeps me coming back for more. It usually takes place 10-12 minutes into the run - after all the muscles have had a chance to warm up, my pace has kicked in, and autopilot is on and I'm at "cruising" altitude!

I've been feeling it more and more often.  I used to be one of those running haters, and now I seriously love it.  When I started I was slow and fat and every second of every run just sucked.  Now I'm not as slow, not as fat, and after an easy warm up, most of every run is really enjoyable.  This was my first season of doing triathlons, and I was always back of the pack.  So, my off season has been six days a week of running.  I was dreading it, but each day it gets easier and easier.  Sometimes I even find myself talking to people about how much I love running, and then I realize that I am a super dork.  Thank goodness for this website; I can tell total strangers how much I love running.  Running: the best drug I've ever tried.

Well I'm a weirdo too then. Love it love it love it. Swimming does it too though less reliably.

I've experienced what you would call a "runner's high" a few times, usually after a 5 or 7 mile run - but only back when I first reached those distances, now I hardly ever get it.

I've heard it's the endorphins your body releases in response to heavy physical exercise.  Maybe I'm just not pushing it hard enough anymore to cause my body to release those endorphins.

I do about half the time get a small sense of well-being after the run or later in the day, or a feeling that I've accomplished something good for my body, but most of the time it is masked by the pain in my feet and soreness of my legs.

I still hate running but do it for the benefits.

So then I wonder, again from a very unscientific perpective, is it really a runner's "high", i.e., chemical-based, or perhaps, an elated feeling due to the sense of accomplishment (like, "hell yeah... I know people younger than me who can barely walk to the elevator w/out breaking a sweat").

These are things that make you go "hmmmmm".

I am just now completing my injection.  I just got back from a 2 mile Tempo run and I was able to maintain a 7:05 pace.  Pretty good for a guy with short legs.

I get high from time to time on all different types of runs, long's, tempo's and easy's.  I am not really sure why but I think weather, speed and other things factor into it.  IMHO,I think there is a chemical thing that happens in our brain that can come from many reasons.  Each person is different and their reasons for liking the run can change, whether its the speed in a race, the accomplishment of using running to lose weight or many other things.

Hi, my name is Dirk and I am an addict.

Only on long runs (6+ mi) and not all the time...and don't realize it until I look at watch and realize 'x' miles or 'y' minutes have passed and have no recollection of the miles or minutes.  Longest I have had was for about 10mi on 20mi run...fatigue and soreness/pain around mi 17 must have woken me up.  Love the feeling of a good runners high!

I've been running for about 25-years.  No, I don't think it has ever made me high. I have never bought into the "runner's high" thing. Sure I zone out...it keeps my temperment level...and I miss it when I can't run!  But it doesn't get me high.

They don't need to make you go hmmmmm.

It is scientific fact that exercise releases endorphins which = happy/elated feelings.  Lots of studies on it out there.

Personally?  I guess I'm endorphined out from years of endurance sports.  It is very very rare I get to that point where I have a "runner's high."  I'd say the last time I really had one is when I finished the only 5k I've ever won (about 2 years ago).

I got "runners high" about three times while on long runs while training for a marathon this year.  One time I found myself shadow boxing and running about :45/m faster about three quarters into a into a 18+ mile run.  Too bad it only lasted a couple miles but was great while it did!  Honestly felt like Rocky Balboa there for a little bit.
