Subject: Bike for 2 year old?
Hoping some BT folks have some feedback on bike for little ones.  I have a daughter turning 2 in February.

I like the looks of this bike from performance:
http://www.performancebike.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10052_10551_1078055_-1_20000__69000

Anyone have any thoughts?  Price is right and it looks like a good Christmas present.

Thoughts on another vendor for a toddler's bike?

She's into it.  She likes bikes has her own helmet and when I asked her if she wanted one, she said yes.  I said Santa might come through if she's a good girl.  Now I'm on the hook   She's on the younger end of the range but she's smart and I can't wait any longer

...alright, I know this should be in cup of joe...sorry

Our daughter was given a hand me down bike last spring.  She turned 3 in July.  She loves it.

Go for it.

Go to your LBS and get her a proper fitting and buy from them. Laughing
Kidding!  Do you have more kids on the way?  If she's going to outgrow it and no one else is going to use it, I don't see any reason to spend decent money on something that will only last a year.  If you're like me and have 7 kids, then by all means buy something that will last the first time!

You might look into "Strider" bikes.   They are basically a bike frame without pedals.   It allows the kids to learn to balance on the bike, independent of learning how to pedal.   I've seen kids on them and they did look really, really comfortable on the bike, way more comfortable than either of my kids on their regular bikes.

That said, my 3-year-old is riding without training wheels.  she has a 16" bike, which is a little too big, and she hasn't got the hang of starting and stopping.   So, we get her started in the driveway, she goes out and rides up and down the street, and then back up the driveway, where we catch her.  Or, she does a decently controlled crash into the grass.

Either way, good on you for getting her started early.  My daughter started on her Radio Flyer bike at your daughter's age.   She loved it.

When my two girls were that age I bought them Trek Mystics.  They were more expensive than department store bikes but were well built.  When they out grew those bikes, we gave the Mystic to a family down the street.  When there kids outgrew them, they gave them to another family.

It's adorable. I am sure she will love it. The price really isn't too bad either. The cheapo ones are like $60-70.

My son got a little bike like that for Christmas right before he turned 2 (January)and he LOVED it. He was riding without training wheels as soon as he turned 3. He's almost 8 now and still LOVES riding his bike. Got one with gears this past summer...that was too cool. He was totally bummed when his 1st traithlon this past summer cancelled the bike due to wet dangerous roads...he was ready :-)

x2 I talked to another parent at the playground one day, they had both of their kids on those bikes and when they switched to a bike with pedals they never had to have training wheels.  She said they kids got the hang of balancing on one of those really quickly.

X3 with the strider. We used a bike called a Skuut. It's a funky little bike, but the kids loved it.

I also have a daughter that is turning 2 years old next Monday.  For the past 6 to 9months I have taken my daughter with me to the LBS as I looked for a new Tri bike for myself.  Every single time we walked into the shop, my daughter would run to this little pink Specialized bike and try to ride it, and say "Daddy my bike". So of course guess which bike she is getting for her birthday...Yup the little pink Specialized.

My Dad bought my son a $35 bike from Target right before he turned 2.  It has held up and we figured he wouldn't care what name was on the bike and would grow out of it quickly. I'm certain in the future we will shell out for a Trek or a Specialized, but until that day comes we are saving the $ and he loves his bike.

After buying (and returning) a crappy bike at Toys R Us, I went to my LBS and bought this for my 4 year old:

He loves it, and it rides awesome.  He can really fly on it too, not sure if that's good or not though.
