I took a quick look at the USATF course map. It says they used a bike, with a geared counter.

I do not have a garmin but I use my nike+ watch and it had the full at 27.5. I know its probably a lil off but I didn't think it was an entire mile and half. Anyways it was my first and I now realize how important it is to actually train for one.

First standalone full. Goal was sub 3:40, pushing toward 3:30. Finished in 3:36:12.

For the record, several people asked during the run, and we all agreed that the mile markers seemed to be late. (All of the Garmins seemed consistent.) I showed 26.55 for the course.

The half was long too, my Garmin showed 13.25 miles. Karen's showed the same.
So did Michael's. That's 3 Garmins that put the course at 13:25 miles.

My garmin was 13.29. That makes me feel better. Mine was going off .1 mile before every mile marker. Good race yesterday and I was happy to be back under 2:00 with a 1:58:16 for the first time in over a year!

Ok, can't believe I am saying this but Garrry is right, at mile 14 the mile markers started getting off, not just me but many around me with Garmins said the same.  But it was my first so if I went over - so be it.  I just pissed about the no shirts for finishers and the timers not emailing until 4:00pm after the race my family got all the emails.

I was showing a discrepancy within the first couple of miles.  Probably around mile 14 it jumped to be off a bit more.

I'll agree that I wish the finisher shirts at least said, oh I dunno, the word "Finisher" on them somewhere.  Seem's kinda basic.

Emails might have been delayed, but the text messaging was very timely, I'm told.

But what really bugged me off was how poor the food (or lack thereof) was at the finish.  "You finished 26, huh?  Ok, keep walking over that way and you'll eventually get some water."  Utterly crappy bagels (I threw it out after three bites), a banana, and a Quaker granola bar.  Frankly, I don't really care if you had beer there; give me something to actually eat.  (See the DRC Half for an example of how you really feed racers.)  For the record, I'm not sour on the race - it was a great accomplishment for me.  I just expected something better for an event of this magnatude and one that has been established so long.

My garmin read 13.26 as well.  I've only done one other half, up in OKC, and that one had a lot better stuff for the finishers, with sonic providing actual food along with endless bananas and other normal stuff and plenty of drink readily available for everyone immediately at the end.  I understand the crowd really makes it hard to coordinate, but I really think there is much to improve here. I've been to a lot of 10k's that had a lot more stuff for the runners too.  so what gives?  At 75 dollars a runner, I would expect the food and drink to be abundant, even if it wasn't very coordinated.  I loved how they said "runners Only" into the food tent.. I was expecting a feast.. not the terrible bagels.  No knock on the volunteers, it's not their fault, they did a great job at the water stations, but the finisher amenities were pretty atrocious.  I will probably look into doing the DRC half next year.

I thought the same thing, but didn't know if that was par for the course being my first marathon. I actually got kind of lost from the finish line to the food tent, because it wasn't clearly marked. Of course, me being completely out of it probably didn't help. I really just wanted some gatorade and all they had were shot glasses of water.

I was amazed there wasn't any water at the finish line.  That's just stupid.  Then to get some water we had to wait in a line at the food tent for 15 minutes.  Then the water was in little tiny cups.  WTF!  I grabbed about 5 of them.  Yes, and the food sucked.  Very disappointed.  In years past, this event was much better.  May have to look at some other races for next year instead of this one.

This was my first mary. My goal time was 4:00. I was on pace for a 4:05 finish until mile 18. I hit the hills and totally blew up. The last 2 miles took me 30 minutes. I finally finished despite the cramps and pain at 4:38. I collapsed just after crossing the finish line because my legs cramped up all over. Hopefully, next year, I can prepare better for the hills and make it the whole way without walking. I am still happy that I finished though. I told myself that I would finish no matter what, and I did. It wasn't pretty but a finish is a finish right?

The water deal was really bad...I just grabbed beer since there was no line.  Too bad the beer sucked!

Yea the post-race was pretty ridiculous in retrospect. I didn't even bother picking up a shirt, they were handing them out but I passed by without realizing it. Karen pointed it out, I looked back at the mass of people, and said "f*ck it". I barely even got the medal & only because I happened to see one of the TWO PEOPLE handing them out.

The course was fine, but man did the post-race suck.

What I said in my RR about the post race activities:

Overall this is a good race. If you want a HUGE race with lots of runners and spectators, this is it! It's also a relatively easy course (no too many hills!).

If you want food and water after the race- this is NOT your race. All they had were cold, dry white bread bagels, bananas, oranges and some kind of mini food bar. Water was hard to find and when I finally got to it (after waiting in a LONG line) it was a sad little Dixie cup filled only 1/2 way. Same for the Gatorade. I can't imagine running a marathon and that being the beverage offering.

Yeah the medal I got in 2008 for the relay team was better than the medal I got this year.

Late to replying, but I will be the x8 in this thread to say my Garmin registered long for the half. 13.28 miles.
I know people say "oh you can't trust a Garmin" but when every response has been within .03 miles of each other, I'm gonna say the Garmins were right.

I was also disappointed with the pace groups. I started with the 2:00 group who said they would run consistent 9:09s. The first mile was 9:14 (expected with the crowds) and I lost them ahead of me in Mile 2 where I registered an 8:45. So they were going considerably faster than an 8:45 since I could not catch them going that speed.

In Mile 10, the 2:10 pace group passed me and I hung with them for about a mile but then they sped WAY up to the point where I could not even see their balloons anymore. I finished in just under 2:09--- WTF pacers??
