Member 16 | Subject: RE: Dallas White Rock Marathon : Official Thread I'm in for the Half. Going to be my second one. Shooting for a 2:10-2:20 finish. My wife will be doing her first Full. So proud of her. I also posted this in another tread but wanted to see what you all think. I am going to be running in my friend Jeff Kerr's honor. He was diagnosed with Cancer recently and having a tough time with treatments 5 days a week. I won't go into all the details but I wanted to print something and put in on my shirt for him. Like a saying. I was thinking of "My friend Jeff is kicking cancer's a$$" but feel that may be a bit inappropriate. Any other suggestions? pete da heat |

I was paid up and everything... So sorry to hear about that. I bet it is pretty frustrating. I just recently have had troubles with my IT band and that has been really irritating. |

Have you tried the foam roller? Check out a Lukes' Locker or Run-On near you... I hear good things about how they work ot help IT band problems... |

I've been doing some stetching and using The Stick and that seems to help a little bit, but I will definitely check out that foam roller. Thanks for the advice. |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Dallas White Rock Marathon : Official Thread I remember last year they posted the link to sign up for the text alerts a couple of days before the race. I don't know if that's the case this time though. A lot of first timers in the thread, I wish you luck y'all, go have fun and enjoy (we're not getting paid to do this). And whatever negative thoughts come to you after mile 20, disregard them and think about all the good reasons that you have for running and doing tri's. The sensation of finishing the marathon is a great high! Concentrate on the prize, and how far you've come, not so much on what you have left. Best wishes to vereybody! Ernesto.

Extreme Veteran 305 Lewisville | Subject: RE: Dallas White Rock Marathon : Official Thread Hey Veterans... What are a few things us first time full marathoners should worry about? I knocked out a couple 20 mile runs in training, and each time I had a new "issue" come up. Whether it be I was too dressed for the cold, not enough fluids, etc. I know there will be plenty of fluids on race day, so I'm not worried about that.

plan on getting there waaaaaay early, then hang out inside the AA center. In my mind it's still a small race that gets 5-6 thousand, but it's not anymore. this year they upped it to a 20k limit, the half and relays are sold out and the full is 90%+ full accourding to their website, I'd plan on getting there @ 6am and hanging out, at least double your expected drive time to get there. The worst thing on race morning IMHO is to be stuck in traffic wondering if you have enough time After the Dart UT/OU game mess I'd be leary, you could cruise by the station and if it looks backed up hope back in the car, But i'd drive, and be more concerned about the return trip when you are tired and carry stuff. Not sure on the bag drop since they change it up a touch every year, hopefully it's not set up so the line is outside to pick things up afterwards in case the weather is bad. I usually just drop my stuff at one of the Lukes or Run On tents, as an unofficial drop Edited by Gaarryy 2009-12-05 11:09 AM |

Maybe just don't spell out @ss since a lot of kids line the course to cheer on their parents. Or say he's kicking cancer's butt? |

Veteran 290 D/FW, TX | Subject: RE: Dallas White Rock Marathon : Official Thread I'll be doing the full. I haven't run a full in 5 years, but this will be my 5th. 1st WR, though. I've had a flu/ sinus infection that has left me with the inability to breathe for more than 2 weeks, so I missed my longest run and a taper this weekend. So, I guess I'll be relying on my inner drill sergeant to get me through(!) Hope everyone has a great race! |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Dallas White Rock Marathon : Official Thread #9854 - half Soooo what's there to do in Dallas after the race? Our original plans were for my boyfriend to do the full but he has since changed to the half due to some nagging injuries. When the plan was for him to do the full we wanted to stay in Dallas that night so we wouldn't have to drive the 6 hours after the race (we did that last year. I don't recommend!). So now we are both doing the half and are looking for something to entertain us the day/evening of the race, since we already paid for the hotel room and such, and don't really have a group to hang out with like we did last year. We are staying just a few blocks from the race site, if there is anything close that would be cool. Ideas? |

House of Blues is also right there, not sure of the band playing that night but there is one. That "bodies " exhibit is still playing that weekend also and of course Lots of mexican food around there also |

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Not really sure what we want to do yet... thought about going to the Cowboys game if we can find tix. But other than that we are always up for a few drinks at a fun/unique place. We're young(ish!) - 25 and 30 years old but enjoy most crowds. Love live music so we may hit up House of Blues... OOH and we could always use a recommendation for a good Mexican joint. It's our pre-race (and usually post race as well) meal tradition.
