I was thinking of getting two lenses.

- a darker type one for sunny days
- a clear/yellow lens for dimmer/rainy days

Do you really need two? Or will the darker one be no problem during the rainy days?

I've got 3.  Polarized smoked lens for the really bright days, amber-ish color for evenings and cloudier days, and a clear set for when it's dark out or the amber lenses just don't look right (glasses save me from bugs in the eyeball even when it's a dark out)

I do kind of wish I had two of the same sunglasses though, then I'd just leave the polarized in one set all the time since that's the most common I use and use the other to switch out the clear & amber lenses

I have only 2 with my Oakley M-frames, but am thinking about a 3rd.

Right now I have a dark'ish smoke tint for bright days and a clear lens. I have been looking at a yellow one as well for those dim low contrast days. I would say you need at least a clear or other tint for dull days. The dark tint that works for me in the sun is too dark for grey winter days. It will of course depend on your local conditions, but IMHO you should have another option. I actually want a lens that will increase contrast in poor conditions and improve my visibility.

I have a pair of photochromic tifosi glasses. The tint changes depending upon the level of the glare. Thus far they have been quite a delightful purchase proving reliable from overcast to full sun situations. My only disappointment is that I don't have an option for night/twilight riding to deal with the bugs and whatsits that are intent on kamikaze-style missions against my face,

I have only an amber one that I use pretty much in all conditions. I could only afford one because of some Rx matters. I'd say they do a good job about 95% of the time, the exception being when I ride at sunset.

That's what I have too. If price is an issue, you can get a pretty inexpensive pair of sunglasses with 3 sets of lenses from Performance or Nashbar. Since I know how easily I seem to manage to loose sunglasses, and know my kids will destroy them if they get their hands on them, I'm always in favor of "good enough" cheap sunglasses!

I've got 3 lenses.  Dark for most days.  Amber for twilight or overcast.  Clear that I never use.  If it's a day I'd use clear lenses, I just wear my prescription glasses instead.

If they made a 2 lens set, I'd take it, but these are just cheap performance glasses

I have four (dark shade, lighter shade, orange, clear).  And I've used them all, but I will say the lighter shade gets very little use.  The clear is a great thing to have, but I only use them when it's actually dark out.  The orange is great, it really does make things brighter when it's low light.

My husband uses cheap safety glasses for night riding, instead of bothering with different lenses.  If you think the clear lenses would be rarely used, that's also a good route.

Oh, and the glasses in my avatar are obviously orange and will be worn for winter riding when it's cold and not particularly sunny.  Well, that's the theory anyway...  Fortunately haven't needed them yet.

+1 on the photochromic lenses. I have the Oakley transitions. They work really well...to the point that you dont notice any change in tinting, just that the level of light stays about the same all the time.

Right now, I only have two: (Rudy Project) Racing Red and Laser Blue.  I usually wear the blue ones for bright and sunny and the red ones for overcast and rainy.  I would like a pair of clear lenses for them.  The red is sometimes too dark if it's raining a lot.

Not sure if it's the same tech but we have Transitions that do the same thing, however they are useless in the car as most glass has UV block which stops the transition from tinting. Outside of the car it's fine. Something to think about/check.

I have 4 pair: dark grey, amber, clear, transitions. Don't use the amber much since I got the transitions. Let me warn you: it never fails that you'll have the wrong set in the frame any time you're ready to ride

Agreed that the Transitions lenses are not the darkest in the car, as (I believe) they rely on UV to detect light levels, and therefore, determine tinting levels. However, I find that the tinting is enough for driving, and still work well for that purpose. It should note though that I am not a fan of really dark glasses anyway..I just need enough to take the glare off. When glasses get too dark, I always feel like I lose clarity.
