Comments:

We didn't realize how far back we were starting, so we ended up behind a LOT of people. Spent the first 2 1/2 miles dodging people, dogs, and walkers, running on and off the sidewalks and esplanades, skewing across the lanes, etc. Finally it broke up enough that it was more normal running.

Wasn't trying to crush the run. Was targeting 8 min miles; however, I was slowed by the early crowds enough that it didn't happen in the early part of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Start *much* further forward. Or just run an 8-mile route around the neighborhood and save myself the hassle.

Grabbed a water, then jogged back to find Beth. Ran the last 1/4 mile in with her.
