So clearly the first digit in your finish time will be 8.....

Sorry guys and gals, I'm bored as hell.   What other Ironmans's's's are there this fall?  I can't wait to see the transition and kailua-Kona pier, as i will be there every day until I get in (starting the morning of the 6th).  I can't help but look at my time and how I might place in previous years.... ~10:00 finishes around ~250 or so, which humbles me from my ~50 place finishes in IMLouisville and Wisconsin.  Theres no IAMTRI forum, so lets get this thing rockin!

By the way, I am going to a Luau on Sunday night, at the 'most authentic luau on the island.'  Can't wait to have drink!  Although, I generally don't gain my appetite until a few days after the race.

Oh yeah, in case you were concerned.  I am taking my bike with me.  My recent Lemond Versailles had a crack  in the frame and has recently been replaced by a Trek 4.7 with integrated TT cockpit... probably will be raced with stock Bontrager Select wheels for racin on the big day!

I'm bored, where are you guys eating for breakfast?  Need a place to snack? I'm at the Kona seaside!

Coming up on 2 weeks left! I had a terrible week mentally last week but feel better now. I'm starting to look forward to the race more and more. You are all in for an amazing experience. Anyone feeling confident enough to give their wish list splits?

I know I don't have the kahuna's to post splits but I must admit I have a time in mind. My last long weekend of training definitely wasn't a confidence builder but I know the issues I had were a result of bad hydration. My nutrition and hydration are both dialed in but I just ran out of my sodium before the weekend and didn't have a replacement.

My first goal is not to blow up on the bike. If I stay within myself I think I can do really well on this course. Heat and humidity won't be a problem as my training has been in much hotter and humid conditions. Wind is the unknown variable for me.

I don't feel near as good as I did prior to IMSG and I'm hoping it's just from a long year and lots of hard training in the heat and that taper will allow my body to feel strong for race day.

I CAN'T believe I'll be in Kona in a week. I'm already thinking of all the things I need to buy and pack before I leave next Saturday. Once I get in the water for my first swim Sunday I think it will hit me like a ton of bricks.

First and foremost if it's your first time is to FINISH. Otherwise it was all for naught. You MUST cross the line, so that's priority 1,2, and 3.

I agree 100%. That's why I will start out conservatively on the bike to see how I feel and why it's hard for me to predict a time.

By the way, I know you're going 808 front and back but my coach is telling me to always go deeper on back than the front and pointed me to the Zipp site at http://www.zipp.com/speedshop/hawaii.phpthat pretty much says the same thing. I wonder why they don't even recommend 808 on back and front because you previous post says Zipp also recommended that setup.

That's because ZIPP sells their wheels as sets the 1080 set is 1080 rear, 808 front, the 606 is 808 rear, 404 front, ect. They package them that way to make the wheels sets more all conditions all rider usable. ZOOT's web site confirms what I am saying, that the most aggressive option has the deepest rim upfront. They just don't sell 808/808.

Your coach is mistaken, the front wheel is actually the most important in regards to aerodynamics as it is the first to encounter the wind. If I had a 1080 rear, I would use that with an 808 front, but I don't. So the next best option is 808/808. The only assumption you can make regarding the wind is that it's going to be "normal" the most aggressive aerodynamic set up will perfrom best. And the handleing difference between a front 404 or front 808 isn't so dramaticly different to warrant the aerodynamic disadvantage, IMO.

OK, you've sold me. I LOVE to race in 808's front and rear. It just looks and feels fast.

My bike is in the shop getting her final major tune up before the race. She'll be al shiney and clean until I ride and sweat all over it tomorrow.

Of course. Always do, it's proven to bring good luck.

2007 splits
Swim- 1:04
Bike- 5:03
Run- 3:27
Finish- 9:40

2010 wish list
Swim- 1:00-1:03
Bike- 4:55
Run- 3:20
Finish- 9:30-9:25

I figure I took 23min off my IMAZ time since 2007. The race is run under much cooler conditions, though, so taking that into consideration and my current state of fitness I think I can clip 10-15min off my 2007 Kona time of 9:40. I ran that race just to finish, same as IMAZ in 2007. Now I want to see how fast I can go. Very different mind set and approach. It's not as much fun, but worth the try. My swim seems good, my bike is much better, but my run has been a bit problematic with some tendinitis in my hip recently. That has been clearing up with aggressive treatment and I think I can hold 7:30-7:35 on that run course.

Typical hot, not to windy. I would love to get those conditions again, it was a good year. The last 2 have been much more tough.

12 days to go! I just wanted to share a few observations from my experience in 2007 which might be helpful come race day. Also, I wrote up a pretty fetailed RR which is here in my blog on BT you may want to read as well.

The Swim:
It will be CROWDED. There will likely be contact for a good portion of it so be ready and be calm and relaxed. It will also likely be SLOW. Don't panic if you are a few min. off what you thought you might do. It's really beautiful, you can see all the way to the bottom, so enjoy that.

The Bike:
The first 10 miles or so of the course kind of loops through town if you check out the map in the Athletes Guide. It's a bit of a cluster you know what. Crowded, a lot of people, technical with a lot of turns, so be safe conservative. It's so crowded, everyone is likely to be pretty staked up but the officials are generous in regards to bike spacing as there so little room. Things calm down once you get up to he Queen K and start heading north.

The Run:
The first 10K SUCK. It can be oppressively hot and humid along Ali'i drive for the initial out and back. Take it easy, don't overheat, and know it will get better as soon as you get up Palani hill to the highway where the breeze will find you.

I'm like you Bryan, feeling more and more pumped with every day.  Last weekend for me was the best I've had since Louisville.  The temperature in the midwest is a chilling 60 degrees, too cold for me to get all of my long ride in outdoors without donning the gloves, windbreaker, etc.  So, Saturday was a little more than an hour outdoors with my college tri club, then 4 hours indoors.  Was hoping I could keep the trainer stashed in the closet until at least October...  2 hour run outside in Sunday, and I'm feeling strong!

Just got my tri kit in today that our local tri club has put together for the 5 of us going to Kona.  We went with Kiwami, and have the Amphibian to swim in, and the Konami for the latter 2.  Its always exciting to race in a new suit, and I'm hoping the Amphibian might boost my swim time by a couple minutes (at best).

Times you say?
If I can take one minute off of each discipline from my most recent race I'll be more than pleased.

Swim:  <1:05
Bike:  5:20
Run:  3:3x

I think I'm going with a pair of Zipp 808's, a la Bryan.  Now, I've ridden in wind before, and in the beginning of summer in Wisconsin you can get going into some pretty decent headwinds.  My average speed certainly went down, but it was early in the season and I have no idea by how much it affected my overall speed/ride time.  Would you say on a windy Kona day, that the wind on the tail end of the bike course affects your overall time by more than a few minutes?

#1632   Can't wait to get to kona on sat.  thanks for all the advice the past couple months its been good to hear from more experienced triathletes.  I am shooting for 13:30 overall time.  but main goal is to enjoy the race and finish.  I thank God everyday for this opportunity.  My then 1 yr old girl had a feeding tube put in her belly two days before IM Florida in nov. and I had planned on it being an event the whole family could enjoy.  Instead I did the race with a heavy heart and a worn out family that was hurting.  I thought it would be my only IM until last minute I decided to put in the lottery and prayed that God would bless my family with this Vacation for all they had been through.    And the rest is history.  In other words I did nothing to deserve this but I am glad God has bigger things in store for us than even we want for ourselves.   My daughter is 2 yrs old now and bigger and wont stop running.  still on tube feeding at night but getting better.   good luck to all of you.

Wow, that's a very inspirational message.  It'll be my first time on the Big Island as well, and even though the biggest thing I've overcome in the past year has been tired legs, I think a race of this caliber can offer equally amazing things for all of its participants.  The only way to find out is to do the dang thing!  For what its worth, there's one component that I find necessary for any endurance event, and that's family.  My girlfriend and my mom will be with me in Hawaii (as in both past IM) and as much as I love hugging the finish line catchers, its seeing my family at the finish line that makes it all worth it.

Already making a packing list for one awesome adventure!
