Agreed, go to your local bike shop and get properly fittend for a bike. You can get a decent bike for as low as 400CND. Take a look at a fuji or KHS aluminum road bike with Shimao Sora components; Tiagra would be better, but that will set you back a good 600CND. These prices are fairly standard in Ontario but I have no idea on prices in Newfoundland. Take a look at what is available in your area and let us know what your options are. If you want, you can email me if it will make it any easier for you.

Thanks Machiavelo,
I know It was quite the general question. I have a feeling that if i cannot find a decent used bike then the local bike shops will have to do.As for prices in Newfoundland I am going to asume that the local shops probably spend a bit on shipping. So I guess If I am to go the new route with a bike then I may just see If I can order online and get it shipped to me .... Think that is a good idea ? I am worried about sizing and comfort. Anyone check out gear swap with MEC ? ( mountain equipment Co-op). Really anxious to get going with the bike training as it is the missing ingredient in comparrison to my runing and swimming abilities. Worried the spin classes aren't enough right now. I do add on average an extra 30-40 to a spin class which is between 45-60.
I am a sponge. Need info.
Dan

If you cannot afford a new bike, then at least go to a shop and get fitted to find out what your proper bike size will be. The worse thing you can do is buy a bike that either too small or too big for you; either way, you will hurt something and be turned off cycling. If you are looking to buy a bike online, take a look at bikesdirect.com Even if you do not buy from them, at least you can get a visual sense of what is out there insofar as frames and components are concerned and the associated prices. Take a careful glance at the parts list for each and you will see why one model sells for less than an other.
