I think I am going to do this too! I'm just getting back into training and this will be a nice icebreaker.   Has anyone does this indoor tri before?

I'm doing one here at my local Y on the 9th so I'm out for this one, but could someone provide a link to it? I'd still like to read about it; maybe keep it in mind for next year.

Thanks,
Lora

Hey, thanks for providing that, Doug.  I could do that one, too.  Just need to decide how I can best spend my Christmas cash.

I'll give this some thought Brue.  I would skip the swim though.  I would think that they'll still let me compete by taking a 0 on the swim.

that makes sense.  i don't see why they would require anyone to finish a lap.  maybe you could just get in and drift from one end to the other.  do the elementary backstroke.  i think it would be fun for you and amusing for spectators.

As I understand the format of these events, I will end up riding an exercise bike for a given amount of time (maybe run on a treadmill too).

I've heard people say before that the rules required that all bikes be set on the same resistance, that would not work well for my at my 198lbs.  Does anyone know if we'll be allowed to set our own resistance levels?

Thanks.

normally they set them and then you haveto ride at a higher cadence (if its a spin bike since there is no other way to calculate speed/distance). if its electronic you can do whatever you like

i have logged 15 minutes in my life on a spinning bike.  i am worried about HOW to ride it right, what type bike, and at what resistance.

I watched the video of last years and the run was on an indoor track not on a treadmill.

yeah if i rememebr like brue said the OSU one is on a track and a bit more like a normal tri, the lifetime one is all on gym stuff (fun in its own way).

if its on a spin bike keep the seat a bit lower than you would on your normal bike and spin like a madman (you'll know what it feels like to be a track cyclist!!!!)

I e mailed the OSU Triathlon organizer (Mike) a few weeks ago and asked him about the bike specifically. My question to him was if we could set the resistance, or if it was the same for everyone. His response:

It's your choice to set the resistance level on the bikes. The bike computers determine your speed based on how fast you pedal and your resistance. More resistance just means more distance per pedal stroke.

I hope this helps everyone who was wondering.

OK, I was beginning to lean toward this event until I heard David explain the "spin bike".  I am 6' 2" and will shy away from this event in the case  that it will put me on a bike with a very low resistance and require me to spin as fast as the smaller guys.  I was already going to give up the swim.  My "power" bike cadence is at about 80-85.

If anybody know differently, let me know.

Thank you.

Watch the video on their website, it shows exercise bikes.

It looks like the event is sold out anyway. I went to register this past week and couldn't.

One week to go.I went to the gym today to use one of the fitness cycles like the race.

I did 20 minutes monitoring HR and rpm. I now know how to set the seat and shoe clips and the resistance level, HR and revolutions I want to use.

I haven't raced on an indoor track since 1986 but I am not too worried.

I have my wardrobe planned - yes, the speedo is coming out in the daylight. the ride and run i want to stay cool so it will be my bike shorts on the bike and my short running shorts on the run. separate tank tops for each. training running shoes on the ride, racing flats for the run.

I plan to arrive around 10:30.
