Hello everyone!

I'm CyborgQueen, aka CQ, aka DJ.

I've been cycling since July of 2009 and put in about 840ish miles, and 52 miles as my longest ride. I hail from NJ, transplanted to Las Vegas for school. I had no idea what Triathlons is all about until my stepsister got involved two years ago, then I learned on my own what it entails. I thought she was crazy...especially that she finished two HIMs within a couple months. She loves it though! I wonder if she uses this site...it's great!

Anyways - I did not want to get involved with Triathlons because I hate to run, I mean I seriously h.a.t.e. to run.  However, after a Multisport information class was offered at a Tri store in town invited by bikinglasvegas.com, I got more intrigued. I realized that I could really do this...especially when my friend (who is in charge of BLV.com) said that I'm subborn, and believed that I could do anything that I wanted to.  I also didn't know that there was a couple cycling friends that were involved with triathlons and some new friends did triathlons.  So...after talking to my friend Michael, he knew it's hard to find a triathlon partner, and I chimed in that I will try to be his partner! I can't back out now!

Got my very first running shoes just last week. I actually started to like running! I'm going to do a couple triathlons here in Vegas, and see where it takes me.

I'm CyborgQueen because I'm deaf with two cochlear implants.  I guess that kinda makes me slightly special.  I've done a search here, and I know there's a couple BT'ers that are deaf as well.

For now - my goal is to just build up a base during winter season, learn different techniques for running (I just learned how to breathe properly and not have a sore side stitch!), and swimming.  I haven't decided when my real training starts...first gotta register for triathlons. I also will be doing a couple Charity rides (and possibly runs if I *actually* start to enjoy it!).

I'm kind of a shyster, so if you really want to see my trainning logs and be encourging, I'll add you as a friend. I definitely will do the same for you.

*waves*

Welcome!  I wasn't too enamored with running a few months ago when I started but now I love it.  The cliff notes version of the running advice you'll get here is "run a lot, mostly slow".

Ps I have a bother-in-law and sister-in-law who are deaf.

Welcome to BT.  Running and I have never been best friends but we were starting to at least like each other a little.

Good luck!

Hello there!  You have another deaf triathlete here as well if you ever need anything.  Hearing aids and I'm think I'm at 75% + hearing loss now or something like that.... I think in the next 2 years it will be all gone.  No worries though, thats life for me.  Research some sites about athletes with special needs.  I was able to get a P2C free as well as some sponsors to back me on some things.

Welcome, CQ.

To mix up your running, have you thought about doing some trail running in either Red Rocks or the Blue Diamond trails?  I've really come to enjoy running vis a vis hitting the trails...

Kelli?!  Oh that's awesome! :-) I was just about to email you and see if you were on this site. It was recommended by a friend, and I like it a lot better than MapMyRide.com, which I use for cycling.

Now we have a bunch to talk about at Christmas...:-P

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

First - I need to learn how to run first! :-)

Secondly - I think I'll wait until Spring time to go to Red Rock! It's beautiful.  However, right now it's way too cold...I went cycling there yesterday...brrrrrrrrr!

Welcome to BT! My motto is "I don't have to LOVE running, but I do have to get through it". At least running is at the END of a tri so lots of people run slower and still get through it!!

Good luck with your training and work on a good base...you'll be glad come Spring.

Hi CQ,

We have actually biked together many times with Lisa and the crew.  Flyboy here.

There are actually quite a few of us Tri people in our cycling groups both BLV and the Las Vegas Valley Cycling Club.  We train together all the time and welcome everyone else to join us at Lake Mead for OW swims, biking, and running, (not my fav either).  In fact a group of six of us just completed the Rock and Roll Marathon last weekend.

Come on and join us.

Hey Queenie,

Welcome to BT ! You're going to find some really nice people here, and knowledgeable also, I would know , I've asked some pretty silly questions here and always got a good response.
Check out the Nevada blog on here, also have you picked out a tri you want to do yet? My first was Pumpkin Man and it was a blast

Wooot! :-) I've heard IMLP is awesome!!   I don't know if I'll ever do an Ironman. I don't want to say I don't want to do one, but it's not out of the question. ;-)

     I'll be cheering you on!

Awesome, another cyborg! :-)

How did you keep the CI in place when you run?  I found my CI to be jumping around too much.  Since I have Nucleus, it's heavier.  Should I get molds? Should I use a visor instead? should I create a pocket for it?

And wavedog is quite a triathlete, too.  Glad he responded.
