MillMan221 - 2010-04-12 6:02 AM everyone's real quiet here.... how is the training going?

less then two months til race day!!

Injured...sorta.  I hurt my knee running, it started in my last 20 miler before Boston and despite time off the past few weeks it has actually gotten worse.

I can bike without pain and swimming isn't an issue, so I'm sticking with those two for the next 2-3 weeks.  No marathon for me, which stinks, but thankfully the prep for the marathon should leave me alright to ramp back up pretty quick in the run....hopefully .

Thanks for video, very helpful.

Just noticed on website that on 5/23, there will be a course preview in the morning.  If family schedule allows, I will be there.

For those of you previewing the course, can you make some notes on when the longer climbs start and how long they are?  In the true BT fashion we can all help one another out.

WOW, I watched the run course the other night. The K-Swiss climb looks absolutely BRUTAL!!  I'm now using it as motivation to lose weight.  Every pound shed before I climb that thing will be pain and seconds saved!

I am officially scared. This course is brutal! Did Timberman last year, which apparently looks like a walk in the park in comparison... Can't wait!!!

I guess that's "good news/bad news" for me as I am doing both Quassy and Timberman this year.

I stopped watching the course video previews, what was I thinking - those hills !!

Let's get to doing those hill repeats in training and then it won't be so bad come Race Day.

I just watched the Run Preview again ... did anyone catch that K-Swiss Mile Climb??  I can't recall ever seeing a climb that long and brutal, considering our legs will be fried from approx 3 hours of Hills.  Usually inclines don't look so bad on video, but that climb just looks a 10/10 bruuutal sufferfest.

The Michael Lovato interview keeps running through my head.  He said they lucked out with cool conditions.  He said if it was a hot one people would be dropping all over the place.  This past weekend I ran the Long Island Half Marathon and throughout the 10k, half and especially the full marathon, runners were walking due to the heat and humidity.

My recommendation/suggestion is to assume it's going to be very hot and humid by the time we get out on the Run course.  The best way to prepare for this is to Run now at least once a week, preferably a few times, during the hottest, humid part of the day.  This will help your body acclimate to the conditions.  I did this before my half marathon and I didn't suffer nearly as much as many of my friends who only run indoors, early morning, or in the evening.

Lastly, I'm going to try and drop a few pounds before Race Day.  Especially with Hills, just 5 lbs will make all the difference.  For instance, picture holding a five pound wieght and running the K-Swiss 1-mile climb.  Now picture throwing that weight on the ground and running wihout it.

Happy and Safe training Everyone.

Any ideas when the race day schedule will be out?  We are within 4 weeks of race day and I would expect it would already be planned.

I agree - I keep checking and the site never has anything new.   You can check the Knoxville tab - they have the schedule from that race - I assume it may be similar.

Estimates from fishing related sites have it at ~50 degrees.  Hopefully warm weather continues and there is some significant wamring in next 3 weeks.

Is everyone here doing the Half? I’m doing the Olympic on Saturday morning and I’m looking for a lift from my hotel (Hampton Inn) on race morning. My wife and son will be with me, and I’d rather let them have an extra hour or so of sleep and drive other themselves later, rather than have to come over with me when transition opens.

There’s no shuttle or anything, and the woman at the hotel said there aren’t really taxis or anything out there in the wilds of the Nutmeg State.

Anyone able to help a fellow BT-er out?

Also, for those of you with kids coming to the race, I asked about the Little Rev kids race, and the email I got from the RD said they’re revising it to a “Family Adventure Race” like they had in Knoxville, with no swimming, but where family teams compete to find clues on a map, etc. Sounds really fun. I might do that with my son if he’s willing to be pried away from the amusement park, which might be easier said than done.

I'm just in shock there are actually active posts right now!!!

Jonah, just bump up to the Half and I'll drive us both Race Morning.  The wives can drive together with the kids, as we're staying in the same hotel.   You did the Rhode Island HIM -- I know you can pull this one off as well.  Call the hotel and just slide your reservation ahead a day... whatya say?

Don't think it didn't cross my mind. Sadly, the half is on my son's birthday and we've got my folks coming in from TX to celebrate. Maybe next year....

Hey everyone - Rev3 is looking for volunteers.  If you are racing on Sunday, consider volunteering for a short shift on Saturday or if you are racing Saturday, and are planning to stick around, consider volunteering Sunday  - it is a great way to give back to the sport we love so much!  Your friends and family can volunteer too - lots of different opportunities!

Plus, you get some cool stuff and access to the food tent

Is this some sort of freakish lake?  I swam in Massachusetts Tri 2 weeks ago and it was about 60-62F in the lake.  Ocean temps around Newport are even getting to mid-50's.  I gotta think its low to mid 60's by now.
