Pre-race routine:

Had a horrible night before the race. Stayed at the Luxor and they put me on the 3rd floor of the pyramid JUST ABOVE LAX nightclub. I was awaken at 11:15 to loud music and thumping bass from the club...tried to get back to sleep but finally at midnight i called the hotel and they were nice enough to give me a new room so finally got to sleep around 12:45am and woke up at 4:45. Ate a powerbar harvest bar, some vitamin water, a little diet pepsi and a little water then off to meet some friends in the lobby.
Event warmup:

Walked to the starting corrals and then my stomach flipped about 10 minutes before the start so had to run to the portapotties and empty out the system but felt much better and rejoined my friends in the corral. It was as cold as i expected and actually felt pretty comfortable.

Comments:

This was only my 2nd 1/2 mary and i beat my first time by almost 30 minutes so I was REALLY happy with my race. I felt pretty good until mile 11 and then just lost my momentum. Was trying to break 2:30 and just couldn't find the energy. I took a GU at mile 4 and 9 and really wished I would have taken another at mile 11 but live and learn. I also took in just a little too much cyto and water but had to stop and pee in the bushes twice but not sure if that was the intake or just the atmosphere since most people have complained about having to pee a lot during the vegas race.
What would you do differently?:

Probably eat a little more before the race and take another GU closer to the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

walked indoors and back to the hotel room

What limited your ability to perform faster:

just need more training and tweak nutrition

Event comments:

I thought RnR did a good job with the race and support. My only complaint and I heard many people complain about this was only having 1 portapottie at the stations during the 1/2 creating longer lines than necessary. I planned on stopping but just ended up finding bushes due to the lines.

Performance: Good
Course: I thought the start going south and then doing a u-turn was going to be congested but things actually were pretty comfortable and the uturn went very smooth with the number of people that were together. I enjoyed running up the strip and didn't mind the "shady" area where they had the course turn around before heading back down the strip. One of the dive bars was even bringing out trays of draft beer and handing it out to any runners that wanted it which i thought was pretty cool of them. I started shedding my clothing layers around mile 5-6 after we got into the sun past the Wynn but really regretted it around mile 10.5 when the sun was behind the casinos for the last 3 miles. My hands got really cold during the last 2 miles and could barely move them. As soon as i crossed the finished line and stopped i got really cold and couldnt warm up so headed inside Mandalay Bay and walked back to the Luxor indoors

Awesome I have been looking for reports on this race. I had a friend staying at the Lux as well and she slept so poorly that she didn't even make it to the race. (or that is the story she told me Wink) My one year goal is the R&R 1/2.

Thanks for the report.

Good job on your second 1/2. Challenging day with the cold and crowds. You overcame the bad night before the event and dealt with the stomach issues.....A very good learning curve event...Next one you will be able to dial it in just right and PR.Couple years back I had the room over a coming out party at the best Western next to the Seattle Space Needle. That sucked. At least you were smart enough to move.
