Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel with peanut butter and drank some coffee. Started drinking water. Checked out the transition area and swim area.
Event warmup:

No real warm-up waded in the water to get used to it and did some light stretching.
Swim
  • 21m 16s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wasn't a bad course or anything but I did have a panic attack. I almost called it a day but collected my thoughts and breast stroked the remainder. I learned that your mask (Aqua Seal) DOES NOT go on your swimcap!! DUH!!
What would you do differently?:

Wear my mask against my head instead of against my swimcap...oh and drink a little less while on the swim.
Transition 1
  • 05m 46s
Comments:

Transition went well. I was just glad to be out of the water. The time includes the run from the beach area. Put on my cycling jersey ( not too much effort) and was off.
It is amazing how racers apparently can't hear while racing...while in transition there were at least three or four racers that the volunteers were screaming at to "DON"T RIDE YOUR BIKE....WALK YOUR BIKE!!". None of the racers even realized they were being yelled at until they were up at the mounting line.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more.
Bike
  • 1h 13m
  • 21.03 miles
  • 17.28 mile/hr
Comments:

With my limited experience I thought it was a good ride. I passed a few people and got passed by a few too. Most of the ones I passed stayed passed and I feel like I did well on the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Put in more miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Was allowed to ride right to the rack. Just took off my shoes, put on running shoes and hit the road.
What would you do differently?:

Think more about actually coming into T2 and start getting my shoes off before I stop.
Run
  • 27m 19s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Only one drink station and it was right as you exited T2. I tried to be conservative and keep pressure off my knees. I finished strong with minimal pain in my right knee.
What would you do differently?:

Had I known there was no water on the run, I would have taken in some more on the bike or carried some with me on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Met my wife and walked around. Did some light stretching and drank fluids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My biggest limiting factor was trying to drowned on the swim. I feel like I did pretty well other than that.

Event comments:

I am glad I finally got to do a race and it was not raining. I am now officially a Triathlete!!
It was good to see Crispin again and I looked for Steve (sranney) but no luck.
I know this report is late but we hopped in the car and drove to Florida for the week to watch it rain. :( It was still a good race and a major accomplishment for me.

Congrats! That was a major accomplishment. It must have been hard to not have water on the run if you were counting on it (I would have). Your times look great, especially for your first tri. Very well done.
