Pro 4828 The Land of Ice and Snow | Subject: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED NAME: Marianne/mav > STORY: I quit smoking almost 4 years ago. I started running when I quit and within 6 months developed a stress fracture. I began swimming and biking during the rehab process. One of the lifeguards at the pool suggested I try a triathlon. I did my first sprint in 2007 and became hooked!!!! > FAMILY STATUS:Married with two grown children ages 28 and 25. I work part time as a labor and delivery nurse. My husband is my Sherpa and incredibly supportive of my addiction! > CURRENT TRAINING:I loosely use the BT plans. I enjoy training and don’t lack motivation at all. I use the plans to guide my training but I also do "what I like" especially when the weather is nice!!!!I do plan on hiring a coach this year as I will be training for Ironman Arizona. Having a coach will take the guess work out of it and help me balance work, home and training...injury free!!!! > THIS YEAR'S RACES: I did my first half iron this year. I also was the relay swimmer in a half iron. Didn’t race a whole lot this past year as I was injured in a biking accident > 2009 RACES: I plan to run the Boston Marathon in April ( as a charity racer), RI 70.3 in July and IMAZ 11/10. I probably will do a few sprints and oly's as well. >WEIGHTLOSS: I have lost 20 pounds since I quit smoking, but more that that I have improved my fitness drastically!!!!
> NAME: Helen / aquagirl > STORY: I am a mother of two awesome boys, part time NICU nurse and > full time endorphin junkie!! I started training for triathlons in an effort to combat the insomnia that long term shiftwork had caused. My health improved dramatically as I became more fit and I found this tri lifestyle both fulfilling and addictive. > FAMILY STATUS: Married with two boys, aged 11 and 14 > CURRENT TRAINING: I tend to have a bit of a "liberal" training philosophy. I have never lacked motivation, quite the opposite actually. I love to train. I am not a big fan of structure, but just swim bike and run for the sheer joy of it! This liberal style suited me well this past season as > I trained for my first half iron . >> THIS YEAR'S RACES: This past year I completed a half marathon, HIM bike relay, HIM run relay and finally I completed Timberman 70.3 at the end > of August. It was an awesome experience, one that I am keen to repeat! > > 2009 RACES: 2010 is a little bit up in the air for me as I need surgery on my knee for a torn meniscus. I am hoping to be back on my feet later in > the year and would love to complete a late season HIM. > > WEIGHTLOSS: none
> WHAT WILL MAKE US A GOOD MENTORS: We both love this sport! We would like nothing better than to share our passion and motivation with newcomers to triathlon. We will hopefully be able to provide you with support and advice while having fun.

Veteran 137 Lakeland, FL | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! OPEN I'd like to join - 40 yrs old, married with two children living in Central Florida. Did my first sprint tri in 2008 and due to some injuries I wasnt able to do anything in 2009 except for a few 5ks. I started slowly training again in June and then sustained a leg injury in November doing an offroad 5k on mountain bike trails. I have an MRI next week to determine the extent of the problem, but I hope to be back in action soon and could really use the support and advise to get back in shape. My plans for 2010 are an olympic, a few sprints and several 5k and 10k local races - maybe a half marathon. |

Extreme Veteran 393 Richmond Hill, Ontario | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! OPEN I really need to get back on the training band wagon! Can I join your group? My name is Nathalie, I am 43 y/o. I have been into multisport training/racing since 2006 and will tackle my first full Ironman in 2010 in Florida. I have done several sprints and olys, one long course, three half-marathons and raced the Muskoka 70.3 course twice. I also belong to a fantastic triathlon club and doing so was the best thing I could have done for myself as I have found inspiration, motivation and great friends! Personal situation: SINK (Single Income, No Kids) but I am the proud owner of a terrific Australian Shepherd dog. I work as an information technology analyst since December 2007 but have been with the same employer for the past 21 years. I haven't trained much since Muskoka 70.3 this past September because of plantar faciiatis and tib-post tendinitis sustained after my long course race back in August. The plantar fasciiatis issue is still being looked after and is slowly on the mend. Work has hampered my training as well for the past couple of months. I have gained a few pounds since September which is a little frustrating. I am now cycling twice a week for 1h45 and 1h10, and swim between 1500m to 2400m two days a week. I will be adding yoga and strength the first week of January. I will be coached by pro triathlete Tara Norton for my first Ironman. We will begin working together on Februray 1st. I am very enthusiastic with her approach and excited at all the good things the upcoming year will bring! 2010 races: Guelph Sprint (June), Gravenhurst Oly (July), Kingston Long Course and Timberman 70.3 (August), The Canadian Iron distance Swim-Cycle (September) and Ironman Florida (November). Thanks! Edited by Nats 2009-12-17 5:08 PM |

I ran track and cross-country in high school and continue to enjoy running whenever i make the time. I plan on competing in my first triathlon in June at an all women's sprint event. My goal is to make exercise an integral part of my life again. I'm not too worried about the running aspect of this sport. Swimming scares me to death, and I haven't done much biking in years. Hopefully, being part of this group will help motivate me through this midwest winter. Thanks for letting me join, Angie |

Champion 6107 Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red... | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! OPEN Do you have room for one more? I'm Kristen - 37, married with 2 girls (almost 5 & 7), work as a professor. I've done 3 seasons of tris, but this last year was hell for me. Started with a failed marathon attempt in April - hurt my knee during last few weeks of training, limped through the marathon, and burnt out my mojo. Did a sprint or two during the summer on not-nearly-enough training, and then attempted an Oly in September, where I was pulled out of the water during the swim. Since then I've been on a downer...and I need to get out of it. My goals for this coming year is to get my act back together. I want to hit a sub-53 10K in March (did it last year at 53:55) and do a June sprint OWS tri (and probably a late-May pool tri to get my feet back under me). Thanks for letting me in (I hope!)! |

Veteran 137 Lakeland, FL | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! OPEN Finally have some time to update my personal info and am really looking forward to this mentor program. I too was a smoker and quit a few years ago. My wife works out 5-6 days a week and challenged me to compete in my first sprint tri in 2008 in an effort to get me back in shape. My main goal for my first was to better her time and I did, and since then have been consistently training as much as my body will allow. I think I suffer from a lack of training advice/guidance and push too hard at times, especially running, and have paid the price with minor, nagging injuries. When I started I was averaging around an 8 min mile, and never really made an effort to increase mileage only better my pace but did it wrecklessly. Before my most recent injury I ran a PR of 19:26 in a 5k and suffered an injury to my calf shortly after. I've only run 3x since Nov 10th and was told by the DR this week not to bike until the MRI next week - can only swim and weight train for now. Once I am able to start training again, I'll be looking for advice on effective and safe ways to increase distance/times in all areas. Registed for St Anthonhy's in St Pete, Fl in April and will do more depending on health Looking forward to sharing experiences/info/ideas with everyone in the group |
