I was hoping some of you folks could help me out. I am going to be in New Orleans from January 2nd through the 6th and I was hoping to get in a few runs. We will be staying at the Marriot on Bourbon street. Does anyone know any good areas or routes in this area, and do I need to be worried about safety? Any help or contacts are much appreciated.

Wes

I don't know of a Marriott on Bourbon. There is a JW Marriott at Canal and St. Charles, but that's a block off of Bourbon.

My favorite run from the French Quarter is to follow the streetcar tracks down St. Charles to Audubon Park, run around the jogging trail there, then back. That's closer to 12 miles, but you could go one way and take the street car back from the Park.

A shorter run would be Bourbon/Carondelet to Poydras, take a left and go to the river at the Aquarium. From there you can run left along the river (Woldenberg Park) all the way to Esplanade. If you take a left on Bourbon from Esplanade to go back to your hotel, it would be a little over 2 miles. To add distance, you can go up Esplanade as far as you want, then turn around back to Bourbon. The whole length of Espalanade is a major stretch of the Crescent City 10K.

You do have to be safety conscious, but if you stay in well-traveled touristy areas in daylight you should be OK.

+1 on the streetcar line.  one of may favorite runs.

here is this years marathon course.  you'll have a couple options leaving your hotel

depending on when you are leaving sunday, this 5k is at audubon park.  run it by yourself or if you have colleagues with you run it as a team.  to bad you're going to miss jackson day, that a great race.

So how did you make out ? Curious ..as I may have the opportunity to be in New Orleans in April..just realised I may arrive in time for the 70.3 which would be sweet..won't be ready to race that, just spectate...(hmm...maybe somebody will need a relay runner...) ..but anyway would be great to find an event or plan something while there...

any thoughts from the LA BTers?
