Thanks for the reply to all…  Tomorrow I start my IM training so I hope to put some blogs about the experience and the doubts I find…

How did the first day go? Good luck with the training, I'll be looking to hear more about your experiences, I'm aiming for one in the next year or two. You can do anything you put your mind to!

I work at a fruit export company, specialising in cherries and apricots into Asia out of Southern New Zealand.

I work 8.15-5 weekdays.

Wake up at 5am and swim or run and then at 6pm I run or bike or ocean swim.

Weekends I train both mornings and generally just one afternoon. Get up to about 20 hours and I race ocean swims and olympic distance.

I am a Day Trader and am fortunate enough to work from my home. I swim early in the mornings, bike when the stock market closes at 3(CST) and usually run in the evenings as well. I am still a weekend warrior though and do my long bike on Sat. and long run on Sun.

Senior Mgr at Fortune 100.

I work/communte 12-13 hours per day Monday through Friday and about 3-5hrs from home during the weekend.  Currently training is sub-par, but will be working it in mornings and at lunch as HIM and IM build approaches.  Weekends will be early in the morning so as not to further disrupt the family plans.

I am a VP of one of the largest heavy earthmoving construction equipment dealers in North America.

3 kids, 9, 12 and 15, the oldest is autistic. I was lucky enough to marry a hot red headed angel who lets me do my Ironman thing.

Early mornings are my key, during the week and weekends. We says she doesnt care how long or when I train, but if she says she needs something I drop everything and address it. All other time is spend with her and the kids.

I usually do 1 IM a year, a marathon and a couple short courses.

I think if you want to you can find the time, it just takes all of the "me" time I have.

I am director of Institutional sales and client service for a quantitative equity manager.  I travel about 60% of my time.  If I am in the office, At about 5:30am I arrive at the gym for either weights/ride; running or spin class.  Swimming is on hold until I get a MRI on my shoulder.  On the weekends, I ride or run in the morning.  On the road, I usually concentrate on the run and possible wieghts depending on the hotel gym.

For Xmas, I am getting a trainer and am looking forward to riding more now that the snow has arrived.

I have 4 children (15, 11, 8 & 6) and a non-tri wife - so I try to keep the family impact low.  I am shooting for a 1/2 IM next year, signed up for the NYC Triathlon and maybe a few other olys or sprints.  2009 is my first year with a triathlon - I ran before but had not biked or swam.

Teacher...so summers off make training much easier.  Kids (2 boys) are older (one in college, one a senior in HS) and only seem to need me for money and food.  During the school year the alarm is set for 4:45 so I can get workouts in before work.

Principal in a management consulting firm, live in Detroit, commute to NYC weekly.

M-Th are usually 12 hour days, but at least we have a workout facility with a pool in my hi-rise...so it's 5AM if I get a weekday workout.  Fri, Sat, Sun are a crapshoot because I'm a single dad - and if I've got my kids, I want to spend the time with them. If I don't have my kids, occasionally I want to have some adult time.

It's a full life. Can't remember the last time I had more than 5 hours sleep consistently.  But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

For the last couple of years, I have been going to school all day (Bachelor of Education) and working until 12-1am.  My training usually happened when I got home from work, and early in the mornings on the weekend since I have a wife and 2 kids at home.  I try to train in a way that doesn't interfere at all with the family, which has been pretty easy so far, given my small amount of training   This summer, I plan to do my first HIM, so I will definitely have to increase my training.  I'm finished with school, though, so hopefully my schedule will lighten up.

Um, I don't do anything.

If I hadn't have ended up unemployed, I probably wouldn't have landed here either though. I think in the long term, this period will be good for me, since I have gotten in much better shape and have developed habits that should keep it that way

I have been mostly self-employed for 13 years, running coin-op games. In February we had to close the arcade and I went and got a 'Y membership to start swimming for stress management.

By the end of the summer I was swimming pretty regularly and that led to me deciding to train for triathlons and here I am.

I am fortunate that my dad has worked hard and is able to support me and MY family while I look for a job helping run someone else's fun center.

And on a related note, if anyone has an extra tri-bike I have some nifty games I can trade....

I am a government employee.  Since I have been in my office for a number of years, I have plenty of leave time.  It is not unusual for me to take a few hours off to do an OWS or to go on a long bike ride when the weather allows it.  I have three sons.  My 21 year old is autistic.  So he requires a lot of attention and time from myself, my husband and my other sons.  Training and workouts are done after work during the week and in the early morning on weekends.  I get up at 4:15 am.  This gives me time to do other things around the house.  Since fitness, sports, etc.  have always been a part of my life (I was a collegiate athlete and a Phys. Ed. major) my husband is understanding of my need to train.  It has rubbed off on him.  My sons are also collegiate athletes, so training is common in our household.

Having a supportive and understanding family makes up for the lack of time.

Make fitness and training a part of your life!

My work days I get in a workout after I take my oldest to school. My plan is to do "two a days" on my days off. Happy Holidays All!! Chris

Thanks for starting this thread!  I suddenly feel like I have AMPLE time to train!

I am an elementary school teacher, and I absolutely love my job.  I especially love that my students always ask if I "won my race" on Mondays after half marathons.  It cracks me up!

During a regular work week, I work five days and my work/commute hours range between 5:30 AM-6:00 PM, earliest to latest.  Most of the time though I leave later and get back earlier.  Each day is different depending on whether I take the train to work, carpool, and if it's one of my after-school reading days where I help struggling readers after regular hours.

Most weekday workouts occur between 5:00-7:30 PM.  Once a week I bike commute to/from the train then to work.  Longer workouts are on weekends and days off (as a teacher, I have many).  When the weather is slightly warmer, a couple times a week I run at 4:45 AM.

*Not married, no kids, no excuse not to work hard!
