I generally train 6 days per week, which day would you schedule in as your rest day? I'm contemplating whether I should make it Monday (after long workouts in the weekends) or on Wednesday (as a mid-week break).

I train 9-10 times per week, all swim bike and run workouts.

I don't mind if you train 7 or 5 days per week, just put yourself in my situation.

I have a job, wife and 2 kids under 5 so Sunday is my "scheduled" day off but due to life happening that only works about 50% of the time.

I don't think he said that he didn't take rest days, just that they are not scheduled...  I tend to fill up the calendar and when I feel I need a break, I take the day off...

Ditto. Mondays and Fridays tend to be easier and lighter; the only off days are days where work and life get in the way of training.

I think Monday is my active recovery day, which is typically better for me than a do nothing rest day. Rest days themselves are not planned b/c life will plan them for me. I get tied up at work, with family stuff, pool is unexpectedly closed, etc. and a scheduled training day became a rest day just b/c life happened and I lost my workout time.

Good point.

I like to have a rest day because it keeps the desire there, if I give myself a break and also stop me from over-doing training which I'm trying to get a better grip on and not get sick.

I've tried scheduling work and non-workout days but I always end up being flexible and somewhat spontaneous.

X3.  Mondays are usually my lightest workouts because my long ride or run of the week is usually on Sunday.

For years it was Thursday as Wed was my longest day. Recently I have changed to not having a scheduled day off but will take one when my bod says its time to rest.

Over last 6 years I've done a variety of different days for rest days. I am a mom and like to have weekends as rest days if I take them.

This past year I didn't have scheduled rest days and it worked best. I do better having consistent training not building always for 2-3 weeks then rest week.

Often I will have a lighter day after big day or before a big day.

My last scheduled rest day was September 6th.

Rest is overrated. I doubt very many people here ever come remotely close to training enough to be "overtrained". There are people on this forum who swim 20K/week, bike 250 miles/week, and run 60+ miles/week every week all year.

If you want to take a day off, pick whatever is convenient for you.

I don't workout on Sunday for religious reasons--I spend that day going to church and spending time with my family and well . . . resting!

I do Fridays, just because it allows my body some rest before my big weekend training and I usually am busy tying up the work week, and getting pulled out by friends. I'm debating switching that to Monday's though, so my body has some recovery after those big training days.

Same here.  Mondays I swim easy and Fridays I run easy.  The off days will happen due to work, children, colds, injuries, etc.

Any day I can squeeze it in.  I make a list of my workouts for the week and check them off when I complete them, in no particular order.  As long as I finish them all in a week, I'm happy.

I rarely take a SRD. During the regular season, I have a swim only day or recovery bike day each week. I'm a slacker just now though and take a day whenever I feel like it or when family stuff comes up.

Right now I have Sundays scheduled as my rest day, but if we have something going on on Saturday and I miss my workout, I"ll swap it.  I'm able to exercise during the week in the mornings before my kids get up, or while my little guy is in preschool during the day, so fitting workouts in during the week aren't too much of a challenge, but with a husband and 2 kids, exercising both days on the weekend could be problematic.  At this point, I"m trying to do a longer run on Saturdays (longer for me, anyway!), and so Sunday is a good rest day.

My longest day (mentally anyways) is Sunday. So on Monday it's good to have nothing scheduled. Just the mental side of having one day where nothing is planned benefits me more than another half @$$ workout on tired legs. In my opinion anyways. Also, Monday is usually my longest day at work, so it's nice to not have to fit anything in after a hectic day.

Scheduled for Thursday. Friends know if anything is to be scheduled on the weekend, it has to be done by Wednesday night so i can shift it. I like Thursday as it gives me some hope of being re-energized going into the weekend's long workouts.

I don't really have a set day off. Usually, though, I try and work it out so I have the weekends off from training. But if I need a day off in the week, eiher b/c of schedule or b/c I need one...I just take it.

That's more or less how I am.
