By the way, the waves may change slightly as somone noticed that if you are a woman in the 35-39 age group, you currently don't have to do the swim leg of the race ...

I noticed that also, but they already fixed it.  They are in the same wave as the 18-24M

I wish I were more excited! I'm just sort of... WORRIED! My last couple of runs have been horrible, my bike fitness is... appropriate for this early in the season... (read: lacking!)

Luckily, I'm pretty sure I can knock off the swim fairly well. That's about it. Surprised

Lisa is going to sprinkle me with fairy dust and wave her magic wand over me. I hope to God it  helps. Wink

Are any of the local people that have camping spots planning on getting to the site on Friday?  I have one and am still contemplating whether to come down Friday after work or Saturday morning.

Taking in the atmosphere and hanging out with some of the BT'ers would be fun, but it is worth losing a night of sleep in my bed when I can get to the site in 30 minutes anyway?

I am liking the new forcast for race day.  Cloudy with a high of 70.  Wouldn't that be perfect.  Of course it couldn't possibly be that perfect.  Knock on wood......

Sweet, I'm not next to last swim wave.  Nothing worse than sitting around with pre-race jitters for an hour...

I'm more like a 2-hour drive but I think I'll just head up Saturday morning. I thought about coming Friday night but would probably benefit more from the sleep in my own bed.

Hey did we ever plan a time/place for a meet up? Or group swim? Who's in charge here?

I nominate YOU for the swim- and Whizzzzz for the social aspect of things.  If you want to defer swimming organization, I'll be happy to suggest something- after I get there Friday and survey the place.   Looking forward to meeting those I don't know!

fyi:
the swimming beach is closed on the State Park side. The water is too high.

It is open on the other side of the lake at Bloomington Beach. It is a much nicer swimming beach then the State side anyways.

Anyone wanting an indoor swim I would recommend the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center on the west side of town. Great pool
Good luck everyone!

So long as it doesn't rain or tornado, I'll live with the heat.  Did Redman last fall, and it was not a fun experience after the downpour we had in the early morning.  I felt like I was running an Xterra course.

Just read through the race packet.  Anyone know if there will be cold sponges on the run?

Ryan Robinson said there would be sponges in a response on Facebook as well as a mister.

Finally got my first open water swim in for the season.  A little late, but built up my confidence for this weekend.

Will we recieve our camping permits by mail or do we pick them up when we arrive at the campgrounds?  I've been getting conflicting information and wanted to be sure.  Thanks.

Camping passes will be picked up at packet pickup. Your site number is already posted on the website though...

I know I have to pick up my own race packet, but can someone else pick-up our camping passes?  I registered for two spots and the other camper is going before myself.

I wouldn't worry about it. Last year we went early and the state park people had no clue how to handle it. They basically just stopped caring for race week. We tried to pay them several times and they said it was all handled by IM. IM wasn't even there yet.

We are leaving Sunday now... Chris has to work a half day on Monday, so we're going to break up the drive and stay overnight in Dubuque or something on Sunday night so he can work from home for at least a half day on Monday...

We bought a tent yesterday, and I got my sleeping bag too.  Woot!

Reading through the Athlete Guide reminded me of something I observed last year.

Transition opens at 5:00 a.m. and closes at 6:15 a.m.
So if you are in the last age group wave, you don't start until 7:30 a.m. and have an hour and 15 minutes to sit and wait. Just the way it is.

Last year it seemed as if a LOT of athletes thought 6:15 a.m. was too early to close transition and caused some unnecessary drama. I felt bad for the organizers who were sweeping transition and people were literally just ignoring them. They had to resort to threatening penalties.

So just a heads up... transition closes at 6:15 a.m.
