lisac957 - 2010-06-01 12:44 PM Reading through the Athlete Guide reminded me of something I observed last year.

Transition opens at 5:00 a.m. and closes at 6:15 a.m.
So if you are in the last age group wave, you don't start until 7:30 a.m. and have an hour and 15 minutes to sit and wait. Just the way it is.

Last year it seemed as if a LOT of athletes thought 6:15 a.m. was too early to close transition and caused some unnecessary drama. I felt bad for the organizers who were sweeping transition and people were literally just ignoring them. They had to resort to threatening penalties.

So just a heads up... transition closes at 6:15 a.m.

Did you pack your wet suit and stuff in  the T1 bag to be moved to T2 or leave it at T1?

Well, I placed my gear in the dinky gatorade bag they gave us for T1 so they would bring it to T2.  That bag was not big enough for a wetsuit and any leftover misc gear like shoes or anything you wore to T1.  I somehow got it all in there but it never made it to my T2 spot and I had to go rumage through the pile of bags they tossed by the finish stage to find it.

Moral of the story, leave it at T1 and go get it after the race or you may never see it again unless the improved the method.

harleyclone - 2010-06-02 10:44 AM Could a family member pick up your belongings at T1 or do they need a wristband to enter T1 after the swim portion is completed??  I am sure my wife and kids will be looking for something to do while I am out on the bike for 3 hrs.

mjgardner - 2010-06-02 11:01 AM Alright, how about this for a swim plan on Saturday.  We can all meet at 3:15 at my campsite (261).  Based on RR's comments about the swimming, we may have to go across the lake to the Bloomington Beach area to get the swim done.  I have no problem letting 4 others pile in my car to head over there.  I am not sure how many will show up, but we probably would need another vehicle unless someone has an SUV where we can all fit.

3:15 lets anyone who wants to go to the 2pm race briefing still come swim.  It will also give everyone a chance to ride their bikes a bit and get them checked in.  We would probably be in the water by 4pm and could conceivably be back to the race site shortly after 5pm at the latest.

The other option would be to push it back an hour to 4:15 just to give everyone more time to get checked in and go to the briefing.  It would just mean we get back to the race site later.

If anyone has any opposition to this let me know.  If anyone has a better idea let me know.  I just want to get everyone on the same page so we can all get a swim in together.

Also, do you veterans typically drop off your bike shoes and helmet when you check in the bike or wait until race morning to take that down?

gunshansen - 2010-06-02 9:27 PM I'm looking at my bike/gear and contemplating switching out the 12-27 cassette for the 11-23. The climbs here in northern colorado forced me onto a 12-27 (yes I'm a sissy and 9-12% climbs kick my arse). How long/steep are the rollers? My hard flat training rides have left my wishing for one more gear...

Hey all!

Just got to Overland Park last night.  Local KNBC weather rpeort in Overland Park shows race day temp at 79 degrees.

That would be awesome.  Keep your fingers crossed!
