The heel pain sounds like it could be plantar fasciitis. It's not necessarily related to just running, but often is. Maybe the simple exercises on this link can help you.
Younger Legs For Older Runners: Pete's Home Remedies: Plantar Fasciitis - easy

I had PF so bad last January/February I could barely walk and these exercises had me back running within a couple weeks. I wish I had found them sooner as the PF prevented me from training properly to run Boston.

I don't do them all the time, but whenever I start having some heel pain a few sessions of these exercises makes it go away.

I have had good results with those same exercises.

If I were you I would be taping my pinky toe to the toe next to it to facilitate healing.

I heard controlling the inflamation is important early on so that the damage doesnt get worse.  I wonder if your walking stride is significantly different to cause pf.  Easy stretching to start. I went too heavy I think at the beginning with stretching, and caused more problems. Dont stretch through pain. I would stay off of hard floors and give the heel time to calm down. Wish I had better advice, but Im 8months into pf both feet, walking fine, but still get a nail now and then telling me to go easy.  Many people heal very quicly,  you have prob just be compensating for the other foot.

It sounds like some over compensation in your walking caused it. You are staying off your hurt side and putting more pressure and work into the opposite one.

For anyone that has PF (or ITBS) issues, please check out this link below. It may be a good read for some of you. Perhaps offering a solution or maybe just some hope.

Trigger Point Technologies has a "foot Baller" that CURED my PF. I bought this at a tri shop and was a little skeptical, but this stretches/breaks down your calf muscles and releases pul on the tendon that runs under your foot.

I really thought my running days were over, however within a couple of days I was training again and within a few weeks I was at 100%.

Trust me, this is awesome.

You could go to an orthopedist or a podiatrist to see what's going on.

I would strongly recommend you go see someone soon as it sounds like you may have multiple problems or one thing is causing another.
