You and I are in the same boat - however, I hear if you offer the weather gods cupcakes they will smile on you - too bad I don't bake, er..., or even cook for that matter (the oven and I have had a run in a time or two - the oven won). I just checked and the forecast for Oxford on Saturday - 58 the high, 38 the low and partly sunny - no rain. Dearest Weather Gods, will you settle for store bought cupcakes? I'm not asking for much - sunny, no rain, with a low of 65 and high of 72...

Fondly,
A concerned first time triathlon racer

I work at a grocery store, so maybe I will bring a smorgasbord of tasty bakery items for the weather gods!!

I don't mind rain, I don't mind the cold, but I hate windy days. Keeping my fingers crossed that the 20 mph winds they are calling for don't pick up till after the race is over.

Good luck y'all! Sorry I won't be there. I hope the rain holds off the race.
I look forward to reading some race reports-esp from you first timers.

Wow, for once my old school spoked wheels may be an advantage.  I mean, all things being equal I'd rather have 75 and sunny, but what the heck, even if Mama Nature decides to bring it, it'll be fun.

Now I just need to figure out where to shower after the race.

You can shower in the locker rooms of the natatorium if you desire. They let people back in post race last year. I didnt (cause I always smell sweet) but a friend of mine showered.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!!! I hope to meet some of you there. It's propbably a little too late to organize a meet up spot, but I will be riding a blue/silver Trek 2.1 road bike with aero bars (blue tape) and wearing a 1 piece HFP tri suit. If that description doesn't match tons of others and you see me, please come up and say hi.

Well the race went really well for the first one of the year! Seriously though, that first hill was NOT a hill..it was a Mountain! I am sort of ashamed to say that even on my road bike I had to walk the top 1/3rd of that thing! I left all my watches at home so I have no idea at the present time what my splits might be, going to have to wait for HFP to post them.

The only thing I had that was cold where my feet on the bike, other than that I really loved the race. I will also add, that I felt like HFP sort of dropped the ball on the after race food..was there even anything other than water? I couldn't find it at all.

I hope everyone had a great race and I am looking forward to reading race reports! For anyone who I talked with, since I forgot to ask folks, I was riding an orange Trek 1000 with an orange wind breaker on and I ran in my orange bike shirt. Man there must have been over 50% of the crowd as first timers..that was purely awesome!

Patiently waiting for the results to be posted.............

I don't know why I'm so concerned about time - I just hope I did better than last year, which I think I did. I had a great swim, below avg. bike, and a decent run. I forgot how bad that 1st hill was too. Overall, a great way to begin the season.

I hope everyone else had a good race. I'll post RR as soon as the results pop up.

I am waiting (not so) patiently to see my posted times, but according to my watch, I ran 1:10:36. I cut over 4 minutes off my time from last year.  I put some toe covers over my cycling shoes and was fine on the bike.  I am really looking forward to this season. Hope everyone had a good time today, see you all at Tri For Joe.

That was AWESOME.

All the hill work in Athens really paid off; I was passing people regularly on the hills and never once had to get off the bike (most of my hill work has been on hills like the "big hill" on this race).  I didn't see anyone pass me who didn't have an actual tri bike with aerobars, that felt pretty good.  The run and swim are where I lost all my time.  I'm in my first year of serious running so I can't exactly complain about that, I figure I did a 10 minute mile at best.  The swim, well,  that's my own damn fault for letting nerves get to me and for doing too much drilling and not enough swimming.

Oh, and note to future self: make sure your bike clothes are right side out BEFORE you put them in the transition bag.  Jeez.  Easy 20 seconds right there.

Still, I came out of this feeling great, with that big slow-twitch grin, and remembered why I do this.  Thanks y'all for all your help.  Total time 1:30:16, still waiting on split time.

Holy cow. That was so awesome. I am HOOKED. That was the most fun I have ever had in my life. I felt such a rush today. I cant wait to see the times, and I know my buddy took at least 200 pictures. That hill was bad, but I made it up without stopping. Cant WAIT to do my next tri.

It's official, I'm totally hooked - what's that about when you give a mouse a cookie? I LOVED it. The incomplete results are posted and my finishing time was way less than what I had anticipated and what I had set for a goal so I'm ecstatic. I just wish they would get the run splits figured out because I think I ran that 5K faster than I have ever run a stand-alone 5K - so a new PR- Yahoo. It was a great day and I am eagerly looking forward to the next race.

good (run/swim) and bad (overall time/bike/timing snafus again) - ying and yang

but overall I had a great time and aside from it being about 8.5 degrees colder than I would have liked it was perfect.

Also - arent there any Oxford eating establishments open on saturday morning to serve beer? I thought this was a college campus. You liberal arts schools are weak.

my rr is also up

Well you can find my race report here:
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=204516

I had to do some math to get T2 time correct as it appears that HFP added the T1/T2 times to the bike ride. Glad I had the original bike time they posted. Overall I really liked the race and it was a great season opener. It showed me where I am, or better, where I am not yet. I need to start getting some brick workouts in before my next race in May. As I said in my race report, I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in my effort, but I won't beat myself up to much for my first race this year, and first race in almost a year.

My report is up, too.  I was pretty disappointed with my time, but also my effort.  I cannot get the hang of running... it's a big barrier for me.  The new bike was still an adjustment with clipping in and out.  I'm trying not to harp on this too much, but it was a worse time than last year (which was my first and only race) which stunk because the bike I used was from the 1980s.  I was lucky enough to get stopped by the train on my way in on my bike, though.

Bagel and Deli uptown should have been selling beer once they opened.  I went there after the race around 10am for celebratory carbs Laughing

Another great race, but I wish HFP had gotten the transition times broken out so I'd have better clarity on where I lost time- transitions or the bike. Between the cold and the hills it was a rough morning for me.
Overall though, great time. I do have to say, there was one worker on the run who was towards the beginning and the end and she was a great cheerer. Normally I tend to space out on the run, but I was all kinds of crampy and she helped push me on.
Next year though I really need to get out and do some cold weather rides and some hill work.
I was really hoping to have a PR and ended up 3 minutes slower than last year. Time to set some new goals!
