It sounds like you should have bought about 50 pairs then sold them on ebay.  Laughing

Is this the new runner specific 5-fingers model that is more expensive or the old non runner specific ones?

There's tons of research to back up barefoot/vibram running, but that aside, it's just fun. It's a totally different experience than running in shoes. That's enough for me.

I'm wondering the same thing. I feel this is just like a diet fad. *Cough* Paleo *cough*

hahaha yeah.

I guess i missed the point where the right shoes also meant running in jsut toed socks to be able o run well.

I don't really see anybody trying to convince anybody else that it's a better way to run.  Why worry about it?

motion controlled/stability/cushioned/vibram/barefoot/etc.etc.etc, we all have our favorite way to run so fad or not who cares as long as people enjoy wearing them to run or walk in.

I'm halfway convinced my boyfriend wears his VFFs mostly because he loves the attention he gets around town when he wears them.  "Oh wow, what kind of shoes are those?  They look so funky!  Are they actually comfortable??"  etc, etc  Wink

They are a great conversation starter.

I personally have found them useful because: 1) I'm at least 40 seconds per mile faster in them than my "regular" running shoes.  and 2) After several years of foot problems and trying all kinds of motion control, stability, custom orthotics, off-shelf orthotics, strassberg socks, rollers, you-name-it, my feet are happy to go for a run.

But as they say, YMMV.

I had no interest in these until now.  I didn't know that I could gain 40 seconds per mile.  That's good enough for me - no matter the cost (and what do they cost, anyway?).   Are they sold at regular running shoe stores?

Has the new road running version come out yet? I forget what they were slated to be called, but I'm excited for them to arrive in stores. My first pair was the Sprints, when they first came out. Ahhh, the blisters, the calf workout, the lack of shin and hip pain. Am I the only one who ran quite a bit slower in them compared to traditional running shoes? I left my Sprints behind in the wake of my divorce, and have been chomping at the bit for the latest model to come out.

They may be magical for some people, but don't plan being faster anytime soon because of the VFFs.  Due to the way you are forced to run with them (not land on your heel) most people struggle to run a mile in them at first and have to build mileage incredibly slowly.  After a couple of months I'm not running more than 3 miles at a time in them and not more than 3x per week; when I replace them with my running shoes to complete my runs I'm always a bit faster with the running shoes!

I like VFFs because they're more comfortable for me to run in than any regular running shoes ever have been. OMG I AM SUCH A TRENDWHORE!

What do people think about training with a mid-foot strike and then on race day lengthening the stride for a good performance?  I took time off running and since have gone to midfoot even though I'm using the same stability shoes.  I've built the mileage carefully but am still quite a bit slower than I was last year.  Honestly I'm not too concerned with time, more concerned about staying pain free (which was impossible at 40+mpw).
