Virtually any of R. Lee Ermey's lines in the first half of Full Metal Jacket during basic training.  It's almost impossible to pick a favorite.

"Mrs. Holmes, if you run so much, why don't you lose weight?" from one of my students-whom I ADORE.  Laughing

I just got a comment like that From my Optimal Health teacher who questioned my eating patterns because he measured my bf at 31%. I'm 5' 1'' and 117 pounds and have visible abs, I've recently LOST aquite a bit, this was really discouraging.

Nobody has visible abs at 31% body fat. Me thinks he made a mistake in measuring. Trained in measuring with calipers or not, he made a mistake. Besides, we have all seen the photos in your albums and I am pretty sure you are not at 31%.

I would take a sharpie and write what he said on my arm during my next race and every time you start to slack, read it. That will help you HTFU for sure...

CU Chanko - 2010-01-30 8:16 PM ...that our rival basketball team had some kid going straight into the NBA named Kevin Garnett.

Why would that demotivate you...ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!!

LOL

My best friend in High School ran the 100 meters and I threw javelin.  We both made it to states one year.  He came back from one of his races and said, man, I just got DUSTED by some dude named Raghib Ismail.  Turns out Raghib and his older brother brother Qadry both ended up in the NFL and were known for their insane speed.

LOL...I didn't know that was his actual first name.  You know you're fast when you can have an outstanding college career at Notre Dame, a pretty good NFL career...and still most fans only know you as "Rocket" Ismail.

My now ex friend and I were eating lunch and talking about my half marathon training I had been recently telling her about when she turns to me and says

"You'd think with all this running you're doing, you'd be a LOT thinner"

That came from someone who just gained 50lbs herself.

Not sure this is the most demotivational, but an ortho doc told me NEVER to raise my arm above the plane of the horizon -- no swimming free, no shoulder presses, nothing that takes your arm above your head (for life). I supposed that would have included reaching up to get a cup or glass out of the cabinet?

He told me this while coming in for a minor tear and tendonitis in my rotator cuff after a fall cross country skiing.

I got some PT and with persistence and some ART and strength core training I am painfree.  I continued swimming and chose not to have the cortisone shot he recommended. That was about 3 1/2 years ago and I now swim regularly 3 x a week, often in the ocean, have done approx. 12 sprint tris, 2 olys, 1 HIM and am training for my second HIM. So there, doctor man.

^ Yeah, they told me I would never walk again after I separated my spine from my pelvis.  6 years later and I'm faster now than I was then.  Every time I finish a new distance, I'd like to send them a slightly sarcastic thank you note for all the encouragement.  At least they were better at surgery than they were at motivation.

2 Saturdays ago i rode 92 miles completely unplanned until the day and was sooo please with myself for doing it as i had only ever ridden 45 before.

Today i went to the gym and there is an instructor there who rode in the South Africa national team who i get on well with. I said to him before the spinning class, you will be proud of me ........ he said why, you got a new girlfriend ? Completely unexpected reply from him!! as we have been talking bike for months and i am married and he never met my wife, so i replied, yeah, your wife and left him too it ! lol !!
