mr2tony - 2010-01-22 3:51 PM So what do you all eat when you're not eating Chipotle or Chinese food? Is there something else out there?

Moe's Tex-Mex. Steak Homewrecker. Loaded. Mmmmmmmm. Giant Burrito

I was never a big sweet eater until I got over 75mpw on the bike and 15-18 miles running. After that point I really want chocolate, ice cream, pie- whatever. It seems to me my body wants to build back its store of easily accessable energy.

I guess I'm just thinking back to my old days (40 lbs ago) when I could eat 2 burrito's in one sitting (watching the Bengals of course).

I would still eat there everyday if I could. I don't know if I would consider it junk food, but it is my weakness. I'm not too crazy about candy and normal fast food.

mfilan - 2010-01-22 2:35 PM I see you are in Burke, I'm in Fairfax.  Where is good chicken fried anything here??? I love it!

I would think in training I crave it less when I'm in the "being healthy/training" mentality but I could go for some 5 guys burgers and fries

There is a pretty good southern place called Flavors in Falls Church, off Columbia Pike. Pretty darm good Fried Chicken there. Don't tell any of the healthy folks, but I own a deep fryer. I could answer, whats in my deep fryer, but not whats in my blender.

Junk Food: Processed-Chips, cookies, anything with high fructose corn syrup, anything with a shelf life of more than 7 days.
Fast Food: Chinese, Pizza, Burgers. Too fatty and too salty
Chocolate-Can't live without, but must practice moderation
I would say that I eat a non-home prepared meal maybe 2 or 3 times a week, unless traveling. This helps.
@ home I try NOT to have too many snacks around. Cookies, crackers, breakfast cereal, etc are too easy to eat with little fiber to slow you down when you eat them.
Coffee and chocolate and portion control seem to be my weakness.

If I have a particularly high volume week, I will let myslef slide more. If I do a ride of more than 80 miles, I often have a snickers bar and a coke.

Before my wife and I got married, I ate junk all the time, and easily drank 1-2 litres of pop every day.  She was brought up much healthier than I was and, luckily, it has rubbed off.  I still have cravings for pop, chips, and chocolate ALL the time, but I am much better at fighting them off.  I would definitely say that I'm an emotional eater... and even more so, a boredom eater.  If I get bored, I just want to eat.  Not because I'm hungry, but because I just love food.

PS: All this talk of Chipotle has me very jealous (haven't had it in almost 6 years, since they don't have any franchises in Canada).

I've noticed the only two things I really crave are Cherry Coke and Chipotle. I try to limit myself to Chipotle once a week, it gets expensive. I would eat there 7 days a week if I could!

Wait, Chipotle is considered junk food?  According to my two teenage sons it's an essential food group and must be consumed on a regular basis.

I sure hope Chipotle is not junk food or I am a goner.  I get the veggie bowl with no rice, double beans, fajitas, tomatos, hot salsa, corn, cheese, guac and lettuce several times a week.  Makes my mouth water just typing it.

Now as for junk food nothing like wings, french fries and ranch dressing.

I think Chipotle can really be what you make it. My boyfriend gets a bowl with rice, xtra sour cream, guac, cheese, steak, etc--that is a bit junky. I however focus on chicken, salsa, beans on salad with guac on the side, so you have options!

As far as what is MY junk food, I agree with aquagirl. I could LIVE on potato chips, sour cream and onion used to be one of my food groups. Yumm...

I've recently started eating better and getting back into training, and I've already lost 10 lbs. woohoo! And that is WITH Chipotle!

I think the opposite, as endurance athletes I find once I get into a cycle it is very hard to break it, as you kinda feel like you are cheating yourself...Dont get me wrong I will have the occasional unhealthy food but I never crave it, sometimes I am at a food counter and am like why not?

I am fortunate to have an awesome cook (mum) who is a health fanatic, so we have really nice healthy food, and when you are brought up with such great tasting food, eating some take away muck is not satisfying but quite frankly disgusting. My favorite meal is not fish and chips, a burger etc etc but Loin of Lamb.

Second question am I an emotional eater? No.

Since I backed off the Ganja became more disciplined it's much less of a problem than it used to be. Save a lot of money on chips and cheesies. If I get a fast food craving I'll just go to Burger King for a couple of double whoppers and then the thought of any fast food will make me nauseous for the next 6 months.

Oreos- can't bring em home. Avoid the cookie and cracker aisle at all costs.

I am also an emotional eater. Some of the threads on here drive me to chocolate. Particularly the 'it's ok if 'guys wear pink' thread. Laughing

There is nothing..NOT A THING, that will substitute for a good chip.  Except maybe a doughnut.

I'm with Jeffnboise on the chips. That is the only junk food I crave. I don't ever buy them, because if I do, I will eat the entire bag.

Agreed on both counts!! Mmmmm - tim's has this awesome donut right now: caramel apple fritter. So good!

Generally I try to be healthy and then I go on spurts where I can't seem to control myself - last year I started logging junk intake for a few months because I realized I was treating myself every day!  Uh, then it's not a treat, dummy!  I tend to be okay at home and best when I stay away from buying and keeping pop and other junk at home.  I can buy a single serving size (one can of pop or a small bag of chips) here or there or I will have it every day.

Anyway, I've noticed that I go into junk cravings when I don't keep a regular eating schedule. I am no doctor but it seems it could be related to blood sugar and keeping the calories up for how much I am working out.

Lately, I've been a chip maniac. mmmmm salty, potato-y goodness! Started a bag yesterday - surprised it's not all gone. :S

And I thought I was the only one. I would venture to say that in my lifetime, I've eaten more chips than anyone on this board. Maybe anyone in the country. Like at least one $1.80 bag a day, sometimes 2 bags, for almost 20 years. There have been times I laid off them for a week or two only to go buy 2 bags and whack them down like a heroin addict that needs a fix.

Yes, I have a problem. But they are so good.

X2 on the chippies...Usually salty cravings - I don't add salt to my plate. Occasionally, I eat ice cream, but usually just take a big spoon to the freezer rather than getting a bowl.

However, I notice that the only time I really, really CRAVE food is when I've told myself and I can't have it. I don't "diet" but my diet does consist of stuff I shouldn't eat and when I try to get on a healthier track my mind races and all I want to do is hole up my house with a family size bag of Sweet Chili Heat or regular ruffles with home-made French Onion dip!!!

OMG - now I'm having craving.
