Subject: Quick running question
I was running on the treadmill at my YMCA and the outer part of my feet began to hurt. Could this be due to pronating when I run? I did buy a new pair of Saucony shoes at Road Runner for stability, but was thinking of using these for races and my old Asics for training. (the asics are the GT 2140 which I am not sure are for runners who pronate). Thanks...need to build my run endurance up

I can't help with your foot pain question, as I don't really know what would cause that...could be lots of things, I imagine. But in regards to your comment on the Asics GT 2140...yes, these are a stability shoe for mild over-pronation.

What shoes were you wearing when they began to hurt?  Old shoes can cause problems if they are broken down.

If it is the outside of the foot you are under-pronating or supination.  Make sure you have the correct shoe for your running gait

When I went to Road Runner (the closest running only store by my house) they did the whole fitting and stuff with the treadmills and pads, and said that I needed a stabilizing shoe because I tend to over pronate when I was running.Picked up some Saucony Pro Grid Hurricane 11 and I will see how those work. They do have that 30 day return policy which is nice

I've struggled with some foot issues over the years.  After finally seeking help from the doc, I learned that switching brands can be a factor... also running on the treadmill usually means a shorter-than-normal stride, which can lead to issues, too.  I'd suggest getting to a a shoe store and getting 'fitted' by the pros (I use Fleet Feet), then trying to get outside at least once/week for a run.  I live in Wisconsin, so I have to choose wisely and pick days when there isn't a lot of ice and other hazards.  Generally, I use a treadmill during the week, and get outside once on the weekend when it is light outside.  Good luck!
