Hey All ~ are you registered?  I'm just curious as to what training plan everyone is following and what your goals are for this race, if any!?  The reason I ask about the training plan is because I'm curious if/how you taper for a race like this if you have a goal but it isn't your so called "A" race?!

Sam, I keep thinking this year is the one for you!! :)

All signed up here. I don't plan on tapering for this race Michelle, other than not doing my long run the Sunday before. As for goals, I only want to beat last years time. How about you?

I really wanted to do the GAR but having only come back to training a little over a month ago I don't think I'm up to it yet. I'm afraid I would push myself more than I should, being in the atmosphere and all, and end up injuring myself. I'll be there next year for sure though.

Ditto ~ I just want to beat last years time.  I'm hoping to better pace myself as well since last year I about died that last mile since I felt the need to pass every single formation up that dang hill towards the end!

As for the tapering thing, that is what I was thinking but then I started doubting myself as to whether I would actually be able to meet my goal.  Oh well, it's a fun race either way, right?!?

Michelle,
I'm not really planning a taper either.  I may cut the Friday 2 hr run and Saturday 3 hr bike on our HIM plan down a bit, but that 8 miler will be just another workout (probably a tempo type workout).  I'm hoping to make my goal of breaking 1 hr this year.  I was so close last year.  We'll see.

No taper for me either. The run falls in the middle of my second month of IM training so I'm just rearranging my workouts for that week. Will be treating it like a tempo run.

At the last minute I registered on Saturday and I'm about to drive over to Aloha Stadium. Good luck to all. Have a great time! It has always been my experience that the GAR is more about having fun than competition. So, have a blast! Maybe I'll see some of you there! Aloha!

If any of you were there, I didn't run but I was in the Army band that was playing at the start line! Wished I could've run it though, looked like a lot of fun!
