Subject: Heart Rate Training?
Hi,

I would like to hear what formula people use for finding their target heart rates. I have had heart rate testing done but I think that the heart rate zones are too high. I have a hard time getting to Zone 2 on the bike and then it takes a lot of work to maintain that. When I did the formula based on Mark Allen's heart rate training that seemed to be better and I wasn't working so hard to get my heart rate up.

Does anyone use Mark Allen's formula for heart rate training?

Thanks,

Kendra

This is because the Bike and Run will have different LT thresholds.  See the field test protocol in this BT article for each.

If you are going to train by HR, you need to do a test in order to determine what is commonly called your lactate threshold HR, not an arbitrary formula.  The post above links to some good reading on the subject and a test to complete (one for bike and run).

What kind of test di dyou have done? The run adn bike will have different heart rates because running uses signficantly more muscle mass=greater oxygen requirement=higher heart rate response.

You need to test both run & bike independantly, preferably with several days rest inbetween.
