Just thought I'd start a thread for the race in September and give everyone a place to share their thoughts.  Should be an exciting race :)

Glad you started it, and I hope others will join us. This will be my first HIM and I'm really looking forward to it. CP should be a great place for the race and I have heard good things about Rev3. I was a little concerned about Lake Erie cooperating, but they have since installed a back-up plan for swimming on the other side of the penninsula so I'm ok!

Look forward to talking to others doing the race and maybe we can help each other with the training.

The location makes me happy for my family.  Cedar Point is a much better way for a 5 and 8 year old to stay busy than just standing around and waiting.

We used to live in Sandusky, and my husband is still there quite a bit for work, so if anyone has any questions about the city, we may be able to answer.

First HIM here too.  Very excited!  I am from Ontario (on the other side of Lake Erie) and am looking forward to the course as it should be very similar to what I train on.  Also, I can season passes to CP and it is my fav place to hang in the summer!

I signed up too. I also have never done a full distance ironman before. I am finding that I am struggling with motivation even as I am so psyched about doing this. I have doing marathon's for @ 15 years and triathlons for the past 3 or so, I've done a bunch or 1/2 ironman distances--never encountered this kind of sluggyness before I am interested in finding someone who would like to partner up as kinda support buddies to cheer eachother on and report in to, share strategies, goals etc. Anyone interested? You can reach me directly @ [email protected]
OK now I'm waiting for this great snowstorm to move in!!

I'm in for the IM.  I'm not thrilled about the drive from Iowa, but I have family in Pittsburgh that will get to see me race for the first time, as well as enjoying CP while I'm punishing myself.  So I'm really looking forward to it!

I think it will sell out (the half, probably not the full this year) but maybe not until summertime.

I'm going to sign up. I actually was in the process this afternoon, but the estimated time questions threw me for a loop? What are they really looking for here? I did my first half mary a few weeks ago and ran that in 1:42, my bike and swim fitness are lacking, but I can't even begin to estimate what my swim time for 1.2 miles will be. As for the ride I wold guess that my current fitness could have me averaging 17 mph on the bike, but again thats a guess.

Do they really care on that estimate? I want to sign up this week.

If you have done an OLY?  If so, you can double the time.

No, I think you can just guesstimate.  A lot of folks are signing up way before peak training has been going on.

I haven't reserved a hotel yet - I second the earlier question about where everyone is staying?!

I guesstimated.. not sure why they wanted that information either, unless it's for seeding for the swim.
I have a question for the group? Has anyone ridden the course? I see that there is one hill around mile 24. Wondered what that was like. Our IN group plans to come over for a mini training camp the weekend of 7/24. We plan to ride the course, do a swim in Lake Erie, maybe run part of the course.. Who knows what the weekend will bring!!

Yeah I'm interested in that hill too, other than that, the bike course looks mostly flat. I wonder how the wind will be given that its right off the lake.

Having done the Cleveland Half Marathon 4 times, the winds off the lake can be brutal. We'll probably have some good headwinds coming back into Cedar Point. I would bet that the Causeway will be tough with the winds, getting it from all angles. No disk wheel on my bike!! LOL!

We are staying at the Breakers also. For the price I think it's the way to go. You are right on the beach and close to the transition area. It's also nice that most if not all of the other guests will be triathletes or family members. As far as the wind, I'm hoping for the best but trying to plan for the worst! We have been to CP many times and I don't ever remember being there and it being calm.

Does anyone know if it will be a wave start or a mass start? Under swim course it says Wave Start and then defines what a wave start is, but it's more like Wikipedia or something - it doesn't exactly say that's what the plan is.

FYI, I'll be staying in an RV at Camper Village, for the person who asked where people are staying. It's going to be the most convenient transition area ever!

Also, has anyone tried CeraSport? I'd like to use it, but their site looked really clunky and I wasn't sure what to order. This is going to be the official course drink, so I'd like to get used to it, since it's different - gluten free and lower in calories than most sports drinks.

I am in for the Half Aqua Bike....hotel booked at Breakers.

There is a pretty huge group of us from the Metro Detroit area competing.  It should be a crazy weekend!

I have not tried it, but that's not a bad idea to get started on it now. Maybe I'll call them and see if I can get some samples to try?

Samples are always good!  I will be looking forward to a full review by someone!  I think I'll still stick with my first endurance!  One of these days I'll find a race that I can just live off the course!

I have been listening to the weekly radio show that REV3 is doing and have gotten some good questions answered about the races, the terrain, etc.  I asked last week about on course nutriton and they said that they will have gu rocktane on course.  I can't do gu b/c of my stomach, but for those that can start training with it!

I really need to book our hotel, I guess that's my job for today!

Yes, get that room booked!! We're staying at Hotel Breakers! I just got off of the phone with Cera Sport and they are having the person in charge of the Rev3 stuff give me a call later on. I told the nice lady on the phone that I have never heard of their product and she laughed and said that is a recurring theme! LOL! Good to know about the rocktane too. I really want to try to live off of the course as much as I can. We'll see how that goes!
