Pre-race routine:

packup everything for me and family the night before, woke up early for breakfast. We loaded Riley half asleep and headed out to get Kara's parents. Had quite the cheering section for this race.
Event warmup:

Got to the race 80 minutes early so we could get a good parking spot and not have to walk Riley too far in the cold. Ran ~1 mile 45 minutes before start, walked around and found Peter and KevinB from work, ran another half mile or so with some strides 10 minutes before start.

Comments:

Legs were definitely fatigued from yesterday's BrickTense and didn't feel real energetic during warmup so I was a bit apprehensive about the race. Started about 3rd row deep with the intension of keeping a controlled pace, hard but not so much that I blowup. 1st mile was solid, passed by several people during next mile and a half as I struggled to maintain pace without going too hard, somebody was yelling out places at about 1/4 mile to go, I was 25th or 26th, picked it up pretty good with .2 miles to go (10k 6 mi mark) then started a solid sprint at the 3 mile mark and made back a few of the places I lost in the middle, let up a couple strides short of the finish and coasted almost let a guy snuck back by on the line.
What would you do differently?:

great training race, was real interested to compare todays race with no specific 5k prep to the Gobbler Grind last fall where I prepped 8 weeks for it, result was a wash, nice to see fitness gains hang on with general tri training.

I replaced a couple of higher intensity interval workouts with zone 2 efforts the last few weeks when I was on the verse of getting sick and successfully avoided getting worse. Otherwise real happy with training to this point.
Post race
Warm down:

found family and friends, went to lunch Buffet at Argosy Casino.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

fatigue and lack of race specific preparation, but that was the point of this training race.

Event comments:

cool race, guaranteed good weather
