Subject: Goggles...suggestions?
Hey, I'm a noob. I need to get some goggles, but I'm hesitant to go to Wal-Mart for them. OK, I refuse to go to Wal-Mart for them-I'm enjoying the benefits of training far too much to buy poopoo goggles. But I can't blow the bank, either...is the TYR Triathlon Hydrovision Swim Mask
any good? Looks cool, but is it practical for training and racing?

Thanks from a noob.

I've tried lots of goggles and the only ones that have ever worked for me are this brand called Zoggs that I think may only be sold in Australia. There, isn't that helpful? I know lots of people who do fine with speedo or tyr but my face is funny.

I really like Barracuda Ultimates. They don't leak and they don't get foggy. They aren't that expensive. I don't remember where I bought them, but I know it was online. Google "Barracuda Ultimate Goggles" and you should be able to find them...

I use the Tyr Hydrovision and love them.  I have been through about 6 pair (goggles and masks) and this one fits me the best yet.  But that doesn't mean anything to you- some goggles/masks fit some, and others fit others.  For example, I tried a pair of tyr goggles, the aquasphere seal mask, and several other pairs which all seemed to fit in the store, but leaked in the water.  The Tyr mask has been the best so far, but still not perfect for me (I occasionaly get some water in there).  It's trial and error...

Check out the Swedish Goggle reviews and postings. $2.95 - I won't use anything else now that I've tried them (I have several other brands). GREAT visibility and seal (no gaskets).

Realize you have to actually assemble these yourself (no one mentioned that in the BT postings). The advantage is a custom fit.

So...will the Swedish goggles suck my eyeballs out of their sockets? Cool...uh, I mean, are they comfortable? I'm liking the price...

Thanks for all the feedback

I have several other brands. I was a sceptic. I have to admit, on paper, they look uncomfortable and simple...but after one swim - I'm hooked. Haven't used the others since....

You could get a bunch of Swedish googles for a variety of swim conditions for the price of one, average pair, of speedo goggles..."gotta like that."

Again, you have to assemble these...but it really is not difficult once you figure out the process.

The guys at the pool don't like them but they've never tried them.

It's all so counter-intuitive, I know....

I second the swedes.

they rock your socks.

Ok, yea, they look kind of painful/eye-gounging, but once you figure them out, you'll never go back to anything else. Notice the often-replicated, never-copied design? a lot of people try to copy them, look at tyr's socket rockets.

But they're awesome. Custom fit -- which means you'll probably have to play around with them a bit until you find a fit that you like...but they're really great.

I recommend tri-sports ($4.95), that's where I got mine...although kiefer.com has 'em for $2.95

I also recommend the bungee strap...makes it super convenient to adjust your goggles and also the straps are very durable. (So the straps won't deteriorate after a season in the pool)

simply put: swedish goggles > *

Got my swedish goggles in the mail today. swimoutlet.com did a great job on standard shipping (ordered them 3 days ago!!). I dig them. Now I have to get wet.

Later.
