SO who is out there slogging through the snow?  Definitely takes a little more commitment to do a spring long race.  Alot easier getting in long runs for a fall Mary.

Good luck training

Try the stair master. I would have never of guess it, but man, what a speed booster and glute killer. Give it a go.

I actually prefer running in the winter as well.  I've started doing more running again now.  Although I'm primarily a cyclist, running this time of year is greatly preferred over sitting on the trainer, especially when trail running.

Everyone who can do the RBR ought to!  I'm not running the race, as I volunteer on race day, but it is an awesome event and every lower Michigan runner ought to do it!

Thanks in advance for volunteering.

I like the winter long run, but can't keep my paces for Tempo runs with the on/off footing.  Hoping for 60 and dry come race day.  The rain last year was miserable.

I'm planning to do the 25k run this year.  Never have participated in any length Riverbank before.  Does registration ever close ( fill up) or am I pretty safe dragging my feet?

I don't mind running in the winter all.  I actually have never even run on a treadmill, don't know what it's like. Upcoming event for me are a Half M in Mount Pleasant at the end of Feb, The Kent City Ridge Run (15k) in March and I'll find something in April.

Looking forward to Riverbank.  With the numbers of runners and the vibe I understand it is a great experience!

It never fills up. I don't think they even have a cut off. You can sign up the night before if you really want to.

I'm in this year for the 25k. I will be doing a 1/2 mary two weekends before so hopefully I will be OK. I too LOVE winter running. Hate the heat. Just hoping for a non rain day this year!

I think Kev (knewbike) and I may be in for the 25K - it's actually fairly near his folks, so we could run the same event! Zomg!

I see you're doing Bostwic. Nice race, I've done it the last two years and will be doing it again this year.

I have seen a couple of people mention Bostwick. I am going into my "sophmore summer" of doing tri's and don't have anything in July yet.  Would you recommend?

I'd recommend the Three Rivers Triathlon.  I don't remember which weekend it is, but I'm 99% sure it's in July.  It's a great event and highly recommended.

I did the Inter Rockin' at Interlochen last July for my first Sprint.  Very pretty location.  Well run.  2 1/2 hours north.  Doing the Grand Haven Tri this year same date 7/11.

I think its a great low key event. Its small(er)- 100 to 200 participants I believe. I have also done Interlocken...that is a good race too. Bigger, more fan fare. The only downfall of Bostwick is that they do it the weekend of the 4th so it doesn't fit in so easily with family stuff.

We gotta bump this baby back up!  Just about a month to go and I hope everyone's training has picked up with the great weather...

Riverbank will be my furthest run yet.  I've done two half-mary's and a number of long training runs, but no 25k yet.  I'm considering allowing it to be the starting point to a fall marathon.  We'll see.

Go running!

Ran 13.2 today as a Riverbank prep...will need to pick up the pace if I hope to make the 25k in under 2 hours...the 13.2 took me 1:54.

paddlesurfer.  I ran my first 25k at last year's RBR.  I signed up for the GR Mary the next Monday.  Both were great.  I am not sure of your background, but a sub 2hr 25k is a 7:43/mile pace.  Be careful.  Last year I held about an 8min mile for the first 13, then the wheels came off a bit and I ended up at an 8:11 pace for a 2:06:57.  I am flirting with going for 2 hours this year.  Hopefull it will not be cold and rainy this year.

It is a great race with a ton of support.  Se you out there.

Welcome back to the OP: leftrunner!  I am being a little ambitious with the sub 2 hour time, but I have done two half mary's at a 7:35 pace, though both were in the fall last year.  I have been focusing mostly on running and an 8 min pace is not a problem, though it seemed to be during last week's 13.2.  That was a hilly route.

I ran 7 miles last night at 7:32 with a couple of hills.  I don't know...with the right iPod playlist, the right weather and a smart start...I'm hoping to report a 1:59 or below...

I am going to go out at my goal pace of 7:40 or so.  I figure if I make it  the whole 25k, then great.  If I blow up and walk in, so what.  I have to go for it.  Based on my most recent 10k in training, McMillan predicts a 2:01:53.  That is a 7:51 pace for 25k.  I think I can make at at under a 7:43.

Anyhow, go luck tuning up and then tapering.

leftrunner - I wish you luck too.  We've got almost identical pace goals.  If it were potentially easier to find someone in the thousands of runners I would probably suggest it.  I'm running solo and my two fastest half mary times were with someone.  That helped.  I ran 7 miles Thursday at my goal pace and will attempt my 13.2 route at a 7:50 pace tomorrow.  Hopefully the wind dies down.

paddlesurfer-
I plan to run with a 2 hour pace group, so that should help.  I have felt amazing on anything less than 10 miles, but have felt verrrry slow on my long runs.  I am getting very sore after 10 miles.  Hopefully I will benefit from a good taper after my long run this Monday.  I told my family I will be finishing in 2 hours, or 2 1/2 to 3.  I am going to go for it, but I could just as easily blow up at 10 miles and have to walk in.  See you there. Good luck!

I have never heard the term pace group -- but I've only been doing events for a year.  It's so logical...Are you aware of any resources to find some?  I'm going to begin surfing the web.  It's a little late in the game...You probably train as a pace group leading up to an event?

I live out in the middle of nowhere and unfortunately all of my go-getter friends have moved out west, so I train alone most of the time.  I know some hard core dudes, but we mainly paddle surf and kite surf. The few people I've found that are eager about run/bike/swim are either at substantially different levels than me or have husbands who don't want them to have that kind of relationship with another guy (I understand).

So a pace group is a sweet idea and I hadn't ever thought of it as an organized thing.  Thanks!
