Okay so I got a CycleOps Fluid 2 trainer.  I hear it's a nice trainer but I can't quite get it to work properly.

My main issue is the tightening handle on the trainer to adjust the tensions against the tire.  First off, it's just connected to a bolt and when I rotate it it doesnt seems to lock on to the bolt very smoothly, once I have it close enough to the back tire then I "lock" the handle in place but that seems to put too much tension on the back tire.

Anyone have these issues with the Fluid 2?

It doesn't lock on to the bolt?  What does this mean?  The handle "base" is threaded, so this shouldn't be a problem.  It's just a sort of turn the handle, flip up and repeat until it is the correct pressure on your tire.  I just check to make sure it won't slip when I stomp on the pedal with it already rolling.

I guess the best way to describe it is this way:

Have you ever had like a bottle of gatorade and you tighten the cap and then you over tighten it and then it spins loosely but then it grabs again but then you keep turning and then it spins loosely?

That's what's going on with the handle and the bolt.  make sense?

Maybe you stripped the bolt?  Can you take off the bolt and handle and see if that is what happened?

oh yeah...gotcha.  I think you should call cycleops....sounds like yours may be stripped.  That's a pain.

If your lever is working right, you should be able to get it to just touch the rear wheel in the pre-lockdown position. Once it's touching, you should be able to depress the lever, which applies just enough pressure to the wheel and the roller.

You may have stripped your bolt/lever if it doesn't adjust to this position, but that does seem very difficult to do, as I rarely adjust that bolt more than half a turn.

Hi,

Just got the fluid 2 trainer, and have a question in regard to the bolt that holds the flywheel to the trainer.  I can't tell if the nut should be tightened tight all the way (like with a wrench), or is it just hand tightened?  It looks like the nut has a "stop".  When hand tightened only the   wheel can move right and left?  Or should the nut be tightened all the way till it hits the bracket?  thanks to anyone that can help.

It's called a nylock nut and yes it needs to be tightened down to the bracket. This type of nut is designed not to vibrate off.
