Anyone have a good orthopedist in the Houston area that works with triathletes? Specifically it would be nice if they are a triathlete themselves or has worked with swimmers or baseball players, (shoulder injury)???

I saw Dr. Walter Lowe for a shoulder problem a couple of years back. He's a team ortho doc for the Texans and head of ortho at UTHSCH. Excellent guy. I asked him about an eval of a hip injury after the fact and he offered to refer me to a hip specialist. I liked that he didn't hesitate to do that even though I was already a patient of his.

If you can't get in there the Fondren Clinic is excellent as well. I've never been treated there but I take care of a lot (dozens at least) of patients here in Beaumont that have had surgery there and I always ask about their experience there and the results. Every story I've heard has been positive.

Good luck.

Dr. John Cianca, and Buffalo Seedway and Richmond in the Greenway Plaza area. He's awesome and has treated many HRTC'ers. He and his PT finally fixed my IT band after 5 years of issues. He's the medical director for the Houston Marathon every year and has a very good view of the overall way a body works.

x2 Dr. Cianca is awesome.  I've also seen Dr. Provenzano at The Orthopedic Sports Clinic.  I had an achilles issue 2 weeks before a 25k and he and his PT, Harris Argo, worked hard to get me back on my feet!  I haven't had that issue again.  Here's the website:  http://www.orthopedicsports.com/.  Dr. P isn't a runner or triathlete, Harris is a runner and they both understand that you want to get back out there asap.

I've heard good things about Dr. Warnock in Houston. He specializes in shoulder and knee surgery on athletes, so that might be a good place to start.

I have gone to Dr. Provenzano for all of my injuries.  Broken left ankle in HS from Football.  Broken finger from same thing.

I also tore all the ligaments in my right ankle and he did the surgery on it.  Before the surgery, I had done PT and was good for a few months, but I would roll it at least once a week.  I went and saw him to get it fixed.  He had me stand straight up and was able to put the top of my foot on the floor.  Now it won't roll at all.  I needed a bunch of paperwork for the army on that one and he would word the letters exactly how I asked about being able to do anything and having a stronger ankle than if I had never torn them before.  He also did the surgery in accordance with the Army regulations so that I can still fly.

there's a ortho at Sterling Ridge Orthopedics in The Woodlands.  His name escapes me right now, but he's a triathlete.  Younger guy, personable, and doesn't talk in long doctor words.  Keith Johnson...that's it...i just remembered it.  Google Sterling Ridge Orthopedics.

I highly recommend Dr. Mark Maffet, a shoulder and knee specialist. I go to him for any sports injury, and he's an excellent doctor. Honestly, he's probably one of the best doctors I've seen. He's one of those doctors that will listen to you and your complaints and work with your goals for getting better. He has had plenty of experience working with athletes as a team doctor for a few years with the Houston Rockets and Texans.

I knew him when he was a resident.  Great guy.
