Pre-race routine:

Got to Sedona Friday night and had dinner with Jerry and his family. Thanks again for the invitation. It was nice to relax a little bit with good company since we had been so busy lately. I haven't done any racing or serious training since IMAZ so my expectations were low for this race. At first my plan was to do the full marathon but my knee hasn't been cooperating and I'm more concerned about St. George coming up so I backed down to the half.
Event warmup:

A good part of this race was to be staying at our room about 200 yards from the start line. Getting up and wondering down to the start to see Jerry start the marathon. The half lined up 15 minutes later.

Comments:

I didn't know what to expect from this race due to the lack of training and the amount of climbing involved. Overall there was 1,100 feet of climbing. I haven't raced or really trained on hills so it was a different experience. The race starts screaming down hill with a short steep uphill climb. The rest of the race just rolled along and I just tried to manage my pace until my watch locked up at the turn around. I didn't really know how to pace the rest the race but it must have worked because I ended up with a negative split. The course was gorgeous and wish I could have enjoyed more of it but was to busy panting and focusing on not passing out.
What would you do differently?:

Charge my Garmin before the race.

Warm down:

It was Kim's planned long ride day so I quickly changed into some cycling gear and escorted her on a 4 hour ride. The weather held out which called for rain but ended up being fantastic all day.
